Chapter 26
[NOCOPY]Hello lovely people,
Sorry for the delay but I am finally back with a new chapter.
Sai hai toh sab sahi hai. That's all I will say.
I loved writing their emotional parts. Her breakdown and his happiness seeing his worth.
I hope you liked it as much as I loved writing it.
I just read the chapter and turned out the writing is utter crap but the storyline is still nice so I hope you will still enjot it. I will try to write better in the next one.
Yeah Pulkit is back and I don't even remember when I wrote about him the last time. I guess just before Saurabh's entry. I need to reread my own story because I am having memory loss.
Someone else is back... well not really but kind of.
Thank you so much everyone !
You people are the reason I haven't given up on the story yet and didn't leave it midway.
Sai was pacing up and down in her room. It was almost mindnight and Virat neither called her nor returned from his mission. He was supposed to be back before dinner but it was almost the next day and he wasn't back yet. Ashwini came to her room to inform her that Virat video called her some time ago to inform her that he was fine and was coming back the next morning. After she left, Sai let herself fall on the bed. He was so angry with her that he didn't call her even once. As his wife she deserved to get a call from him or even a text message about his return being delayed.
Just before the breakfast, Virat entered the house with his colleague friend. The Chavans requested him to stay for breakfast but he refused as he wanted to go back to his family as soon as possible.
« You should have taken those two days off suggested by the doctor. You could have spent time with your family. », his friend said hearable only by Virat.
« Wohi toh nahin chahiye. », Virat murmured making his friend look at him questioningly.
« Why take two days off ? », Ashwini asked worried ?
« Aunty, your son is a hero. He got injured while saving his colleagues. », he blurted out the truth.
Virat looked daggers at him but his eyes shifted to the person who dropped a glass of water. Sai was in shock. Virat stood up, a little worried about the reaction he was going to get and the guilt deep inside that she had to learn about his injury like this. Sai ran towards him with teary eyes.
« Virat Sir, where did you get hurt ? Is it hurting you ? How did this happen ? », she bombarded him with questions.
His colleague smiled. No wonder he refused to inform his family about the injury. Virat gave a half smile and reminded his colleague that he was getting late. Once he sent him away, Mohit helped him carry his luggage to his room. Virat explained what happened to the family and told them not to worry. He has a little cut on the back but he was fine. He requested his mother to bring the food to his room as he was startving.
Virat was sitting at the edge of his side of the bed and was checking his phone. Sai came to the room and put the tray on the able. She walked up to him and lifted his t-shirt. She checked the wound and started to apply the haldi lep Ashwini made for her son.
« Aayi, is this necessary ? I got the best treatment from the doctors. Instead of this you should maybe feed me as I am starving. », he said holding her hand and pulling her to face her. « You ? », he looked at Sai surprised.
« Yes me. », she went back to apply the turmeric ointment.
He got up refusing to be taken care of by her, « You don't have to do all the things a wife does for her husband. This marriage is fake after all. »
« But you always took care of me as a husband and now it's my turn. », she said hurt.
« Wrong. Last time you decided that we can't worry or care for each other when one is hurt or injured. Weren't you the one who pushed me away when I was worried about your arm injury ? So I am just following your rules. But you are still luckier than me as you know what happened to me while I still don't know what happened to you the other day. », he reminded her.
She looked down. He got his uniform from the wardrobe and went to the washroom. He came out a few minutes later, picked up the belongings he needed and the food tray and went downstairs. The entire family was having their morning tea in the living room. Everyone was shocked when he came down in uniform.
« Thanks Aayi for taking care of me. I will try to remember to never ask you anything ever again. », he said sarcastically with a smile putting the tray on the table.
Virat left while Ashwini felt a little bad that her children were going through a bad phase and that her son had to leave the house without eating when he had clearly stated that he was starving. Ninad and Kaku wondered why he was behaving like this. Sai who watched the scene from the stairs went back to her room. She took her Aaba's picture and sat down on the bed. Staring at her Aaba's picture she broke down. She knew that she deserved all of this but it was still hurting her. Ever since they were married, she said a lot of things to him and he often took it sportingly. She knew that his heart ached the same way as hers was aching seeing him injured but unable to take care of him. She understood how one feels helpless when the other one doesn't take the call nor call for days. She tasted his resentment, the same she fed him so many times.
« Aaba what can I do to get the old Virat Sir back ? He is not only hurting me but himself too and the rest of the family. I am not liking how he is keeping himself busy with his work forgetting his family. I am not liking how he is distancing himself from everyone and how he is so cold with everyone. I am not liking that Samrat Dada and Virat Sir are not talking to each other. I don't want him to give up on me. How can he be so distant with me ? How can he talk to me like if I was a stranger ? », Sai cried hugging her Aaba's picture.
Sai leaped up determined to make things like before. She challenged herself that before the dinner time she will get her Virat Sir back.
Virat entered his room which was lit by candles. He could see a pathway with yellow color rose petals. He shook his head because he wasn't in the mood to talk just for the sake of talking. This wasn't the kind of efforts he wanted to see from Sai's side. All he wanted was to be understood. He walked a few steps through the flower pathway and saw a white paper sheet. He picked it up and read the big « SORRY ! » written on it. A smile appeared on his face. Sai who was hiding in the washroom saw his reaction and got happy. He was melting but his smile disappeared thinking if she really meant it or she was just saying it for the sake of it. Sai became sad. He then read the part which was written in small « I am sorry for misunderstanding you. I am sorry that I don't always understand your worries and fears. I am sorry that I make you feel helpless. I am sorry for hurting you. » He walked till the next paper sheet. « Now I know how you must have felt every time I didn't answer to your calls. Now I understand how it feels to see the person is hurt and injured but you are unable to help. Now I know how it feels to get ignored. » was written. Virat's eyes welled up. He walked up to the bed and picked up the last paper. « Please, give us the old Virat Sir back. It hurts to see you being hurt. It hurts when you cut me off your life. I want to be back in your life and not be treated like a stranger. I miss you. I miss us. » was written with a sad smiley. He couldn't hold his tears anymore after reading those lines. Sai came out from her hidden place and walked towards him. She went down on her knees and folded her hands. Sensing her presence, he turned around and was shocked.
« I am sorry. », she finally said those magical words which he wanted to hear for so long.
He held her by the shoulders and pulled her up. He let the tears roll down his cheeks. These words written and felt by her relieved him from the pain. He felt like he was finally being understood by her.
« Why are you crying like a fool ? », she asked with tears.
« Are you a fool too because you are also crying ? », he asked her.
« Please, can't we get back to our old selves ? », she asked taking refuge in his arms.
He hugged her back. Both stayed in each other's arms for some time as if the time had stopped.
The entire family was waiting for Virat and Sai for dinner. Bhavani asked Karishma to go check on them and ask them to come down. Karishma saw the candles and the rose petal pathway but the room was empty. She came down embarrassed and blushing. When they asked what happened, she refused to say anything.
« Will you tell us what happened or should I deprive you from having dessert tonight ? What did Sai do now ? », Bhavani asked angrily.
« No no... the room... they... candles and rose petals. », Karishma was unable to speak and hid her face with her hands.
Virat joined them and took place. He was about to serve food for himself when he noticed everyone's eyes on him. Some were staring at him questioningly and some other embarrassingly. They were joined by Sai who sat next to him. Both looked at each other just like they always did to speak without using words. The rest of the family sensed that everything was back to normal. After dinner they all gathered in the living room to spend some family time before going to bed.
« Aayi... », Sai tried to tell her something but didn't know how to. »
« Bol. », Ashwini encouraged her to speak.
She sighed, « You were right. I am Virat Sir's wife and I am his responsibility. I... I... shouldn't have acted that way the other day but what can I do ? When I get angry I become a wild cat. »
« It's fine. Why bring the past again when things are better now ? », Ashwini asked.
« Because... », she closed her eyes, « I know that the money I gave you, you still have it. I want it back. »
« What ? », Ashwini asked.
Everyone was shocked. Virat wondered why she was doing this.
« I have somehow hurt Virat Sir by taking away his rights of a husband. I want to give it back to him. », Sai said and walked towards Virat, « But Virat Sir, I want to keep my job. »
Virat smiled and put a hand on her cheek, « Sai, I have already told you that I don't mind you working if you can manage everything. »
« I know but you were angry the other day. I don't want you to let me work if that's not something you really want. », she said.
« Yes I was angry but my words weren't fake. You are a free bird, Sai. That's what I always loved about you since Gadchiroli days. Yes you fly a little too high sometimes and get burnt but I am sure with life experiences you will learn how to balance everything. This job is also an experience so I don't have any problem but don't compromise with your studies and your resposibilities as a Chavan bahu. », Virat replied.
Kaku and her Minions rolled their eyes. No matter how much they fight, their support for each other was never ending.
They all went to their respective rooms. Samrat attended a call and joined his wife some time later. He found her sitting at the edge of the bed, looking into space. He knew she wasn't happy with Virat and Sai's patch up. He somehow felt bad for her that she was unable to move on. He felt awful for himself too because he himself was unable to forget everything. He was hurting himself, his brother and his wife. A few months ago he accepted to give them a chance and since he didn't try much to make this marriage work. He decided to spend some time with her before joining his duty again.
Sitting on the floor Virat and Sai spent the night catching up on the time they wasted. Before going to sleep, they blew the candles out...together... one by one.
Soon after Samrat woke up, he requested Pakhi to get ready. He wanted to spend the day with her. She didn't like the idea but she couldn't refuse either as she was the one who accepted to give them a chance.
Sai rushed for the next lecture and bumped into Dr. Pulkit Deshpande. She was surprised to see him after quite a long time.
« Pulkit Sir ? Where have you been for so long ? », she asked.
« I went out of city for some work. I heard about what happened to you. How are you now ? », he asked.
« I am fine. », she cut it short as she didn't want to talk about Saurabh.
« You looked upset with me just before I left. I couldn't get my answers back then. », he said.
« Leave it Pulkit Sir. I was upset with myself. », she replied.
« I hope one day you will tell me the real reason till then see you tomorrow. », he said.
Pulkit left and Sai recalled how Pulkit lied to her about his wife and his daughter. She came back to reality and ran to the auditorium.
Pakhi and Samrat came down and informed everyone that they were going out. They were all happy that they decided to spend time together that too before rejoining his duty. Seeing his Ninad Mama glued to the television, Samrat turned his head to see what was grabbing his attention.
« These reporters are sometimes just like us soldiers. », Ninad said.
« What happpened ? », Samrat asked.
« Two reporters went missing. », Ninad replied.
A weird feeling in the chest numbed his entire body but his mind gathered the courage to get his phone out from his pocket. He called the only number that could help him from getting rid of this restlessness.
« Just tell me she is not one of them. », Samrat didn't even care to greet him.
« I am sorry, you know the rules. I can't reveal you anything Sam. », he replied.
« At least tell me if it's the same... », Samrat tried another way to get his answers.
« Yes but that's all I can say for now. I will call you if there is something. », he replied.
Samrat let himself fall down on the floor and a name came out of his mouth « Moon ! ».
