Chapter 37.1: Prelude

~17th June, 5:00 a.m Sharma Niwas~

First rays of the sunrise slipped through the curtains of Prerna's window reaching her eyes. The soon to-be ex Mrs. Anurag Basu briefly shut her eyes for a moment before opening them again, adjusting them to the light. She had been lying awake since last one hour, thinking about today. Aur paanch ghante aur, Prerna thought solemnly looking at the clock lying on her bedside table,  Aur uske baad mere aur Anurag ka divorce ho jaayega. Hum humesha ke liye alag ho jayenge. Like reels of a film her moments with Anurag flashed across her mind, Bas ek simple love story chahiye the mujhe- pati, pyaar, parivaar bas yahi sapna tha mera, Prerna thought wiping a lone tear, Maine kabhi socha bhi nahi tha ke humari kahani itni complicated ho jayegi aur itni jaldi khatm ho jayegi Anurag.

~17th June, 5:00 a.m Basu Bari~

Sitting at his study table, Anurag Basu dispassionately saw the sun rise. Bas he thought, Paach ghante baad main tumse milunga Prerna.....divorce court mein..aur uske baad tum mujhse nafrat karogi. Anurag had already set it up with his lawyer Mr.Mukherjee, on how to proceed with things, he's going to say that he has changed his mind, he doesn't want a divorce. Mr. Mukherjee will handle the rest. He will put up the case in such a way so that Prerna will have no option but live with him, under the same roof for the next six months. Anurag sighed, looking at Prerna's picture in front of him he said, "Mujhe tumhare saath yeh sab karte huye bilkul bhi achcha nahi lag raha. Lekin main karu? Mujhe samajna toh dur tum meri baat sunne ko bhi ready nahi ho! Aise mein main kya karta batao? Mere paas aur option hi kya hai? Hum ek dusre se pyaar karte hai, humara bachcha iss duniya mein aane waale hai, toh humare beech kyu kuch theek nahi ho sakta? Don't we owe it to ourselves? Our child?Maine ek baar tumse door jaane ki galti kardi, ab main wohi galti tumhe nahi karne dunga, Prerna! I promise!".

Precap: As the judge checked the divorce papers, Prerna closed her eyes taking a deep breath waiting for the judge to speak. Just then, she heard Anurag's lawyer say, "Your honour, mere client ko iss divorce se aitraaz hai. Woh chahte hai ke unke aur Mrs.Basu ke rishte ko ek aur Mauka diya jaaye."
