Summary:
Two people not meant to be. An afternoon of unexpected rains. And a willow tree that bears the only witness to their conversation -- What does it really mean to get wet in the same rain? Come and be privy to these whispers between Iram Haider and Atharva Singh Kaul in this slice of a bigger story.
Author's Note:
Hello there, this is Bhavini (known to many here as Frostedstarlit). I wasn't planning to write. I wasn't even plotting anything. But then I thought about my book, and thought about a bonus scene that could very well fit into the weave. That's how I found myself taking back the characters Atharva Singh Kaul and Iram Haider and writing more of them.
To give you, dear reader, a rough background on them:
Atharva SIngh Kaul is a 36 year old politcian in Kashmir, who was once a military captain in the Indian Special Frontier Forces. Today he is leading his own party in the Legistlative Assembly Elections of Jammu & Kashmir, and fighting to win the seat of Chief Minister in order to bring Kashmir out of its misery. Only, a young Muslim girl he had saved in his youth is back in his life, at the most crucial turn nonetheless.
Iram Haider is a 30 year old secluded blogger, who was in a self-imposed exile in Leh for close to 12 years. Now she is back to her hometown in Srinagar, where her politician father was killed in cold blood in front of her, where she was chased away and into a soldier's arms. Back in that soldier-turned-politician's life now, she becomes his speech writer, his inadvertant confidante, and the woman he has fallen in love with. Only, her father's past deeds are beginning to resurrect between them, turning bridges into barriers.
Their story is called 'The City of Pillars.' It is a full length politicial romance novel available in paperback and ebook formats on Amazon. This short story however, is not part of the book, and is completely unpublished, written especially for you and the 'Barso re' contest. It is a bonus scene that happens at one of the most crucial points just before the big climax begins. Enjoy!
