The Indian music industry is mourning the loss of Assamese singing legend Zubeen Garg, who tragically passed away in a scuba diving accident in Singapore at 52. Colleagues and fans are paying tribute to his iconic voice and cultural impact. Garg's legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
Music composer Pritam, who worked with Zubeen Garg for the song Ya Ali in Gangster shared a statement via his publicist. “Zubeen Garg, losing his life in an accident is just the most terrible and saddest news. Still trying to come to terms with it. My deepest condolences to Garima and his family. Om Shanti,” he said.
Popular Assamese singer-composer Papon took to Instagram and wrote he was shocked by his writing. “This is so shocking! The voice of a generation! Gone too soon. At a loss of words! Lost a friend. Lost a brother. A big void. Praying for a peaceful journey of his soul,” he wrote alongside Zubeen's photo.

Jubin Nautiyal also mourned the death of Zubeen. He posted a photo of Zubeen, writing, "Zubeen Garg ~ (18.11.1972 – 19.09.2025) Your music will echo in our hearts forever, A true talent gone too soon. Rest in peace".
Badshah shared a tribute, saying "Never met him. Heard his songs. Heard his stories. Never knew it would hurt so much. Rest in peace. ZubeenDa"

"It is with deep sadness that we share the news of Zubeen Garg's passing. While scuba diving, he experienced breathing difficulties and was immediately given CPR before being rushed to Singapore General Hospital. Despite efforts to save him, he was declared dead in the ICU around 2.30 pm IST," a statement issued by organisers of the North East Festival said.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma condoled the singer's demise, saying the state has "lost one of its favourite sons".

These included Bishnupriya Manipuri, Adi, Boro, English, Goalpariya, Kannada, Karbi, Khasi, Malayalam, Marathi, Mising, Nepali, Odia, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, and Tiwa.
