The sudden demise of singer Zubeen Garg in Singapore has left Assam and the music fraternity in deep shock. The death certificate issued by the Singapore High Commission states the cause of death as “drowning”.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, however, has assured that the matter will be further investigated. He stressed the need to obtain the full post-mortem report before drawing any final conclusion. Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister clarified that the certificate and the post-mortem report are not the same. “The Singapore High Commission sent the death certificate of Zubeen Garg, and they mentioned the cause of death is drowning. But this is not a post-mortem report. We will send the documents to CID. The Chief Secretary is contacting the Singapore Ambassador to get the post-mortem report at the earliest,” he said.

He also mentioned the role of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in extending support. “He called me two to three times today, inquiring about the arrangements for the final journey of Zubeen Garg and assured assistance,” Sarma added.
Currently, the mortal remains of the late singer are kept at the Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex in Guwahati. Thousands of fans have gathered to pay their last respects, a reflection of the immense affection and influence Zubeen Garg held across Assam.
