Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji is not only known for her films but also for advocating women's rights; she consistently utilizes her influential voice to shed light on the challenges faced by women. In a recent conversation with Anupama Chopra, the renowned actor shared her views on the emergence of women-centric content on OTT platforms versus traditional movies.
Rani has always emphasized the significance of women securing pivotal and leading roles in films, underscoring the need for women to reshape the storytelling. However, the present trend indicates that women are prominently taking the reins on streaming platforms rather than in theatrical releases.
Speaking her mind on the same, the Mardani actress said, “Of course, I think anything that changes the landscape for women is best and women wanting to do it is best as long as people see our work because we actors can only thrive when people watch our work. We’re not working for five people watching our film, right? We want people all over the world to see our work.”
Rani gave the following justification for why some movies can't be produced for a theatre experience. She said that are various reasons why a movie can't be produced for a theatre experience, whether it's the monetization or whether the audience really wants to go see a certain piece but they're more comfortable watching it in the comfort of their homes, so be it. But her personal point is that, with the woman serving as the story's main character, she would hope to create a theatrical experience for her audience, one that would convince them to attend.
Rani's most recent appearance was in the 2023 legal drama "Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway." However, her enthusiasts can anticipate her return in "Mardaani 3," a project she eagerly anticipates being a part of.
