Kajol recently opened up about her unique journey in Bollywood, emphasizing that her success stems from the audience's appreciation rather than her family connections.
She said,"It isn’t about legacy. It is every woman’s work. Nargis, Sharmila Tagore had no legacy. What I am today isn’t because of my lineage. It is the legacy of every woman who has worked. Every woman has to take a call that now I will take a break and if I want to come back, I will come back and she will be able to do that if she wants to,” she said.
The actor added, “If you see my filmography, I am probably the least worked actor. My mom (veteran actor Tanuja) and grandmom (late director and actor Shobhna Samarth) always told me that work is a part of your life not your whole life. I did take breaks. I wanted to get married and have kids. Thankfully I am still working and I’m still relevant... I am thankful to everyone for having a good taste so far.”
Making her film debut in 1992 with Rahul Rawail's Bekhudi, Kajol quickly became known for her natural acting style throughout the '90s. She has always been selective about her roles and unafraid to pause her career for family.
Kajol's career highlights include iconic films such as Yeh Dillagi, Karan Arjun, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, among others. After her daughter’s birth in 2003, she took a step back, returning to the screen with films like Fanaa and My Name Is Khan. Following the birth of her son, she chose to prioritize motherhood until her comeback in 2015 with Dilwale.
Looking ahead, Kajol has an exciting lineup of projects, spanning genres from horror to action. She will explore the horror genre for the first time in Maa and reunite with Prabhu Deva in the action film Maharagni – Queen of Queens. Additionally, she will portray a police officer in the Netflix film Do Patti.
