Actor John Abarahm believes that the way "Dostana" helped people shed their inhibitions about homosexuality, his maiden home production "Vicky Donor" will give the issue of sperm donation a lot of credibility.
"Sperm donation, which is a taboo for a lot of people, is going to be treated with a lot of credibility once this ('Vicky Donor') happens," the 39-year-old said here at the launch of the first look of the film.
"When we did 'Dostana', there was a section that said people won't accept homosexuality, but 'Dostana' worked like magic. Today if you see two men holding hands, people tease them using the 'Dostana' tag.
"If 'Dostana' has worked, I am sure 'Vicky Donor' will work too. It is a very credible film. There are no adult jokes, it's not perverse...it's a clean film, a lovely film. It's my first production, so I will make sure I have a great first film," Abraham added.
After having a successful modelling career, John ventured into Bollywood with 2003 release "Jism" and then did both commerical and off beat films including "Dhoom", "Water", "Garam Masala", "Kabul Express" and "7 Khoon Maaf".
Stressing on the importance of sperm donation, Abraham said it was not all about money.
"You won't believe there are industrialists, police officers... they donate sperm. They do it because they want to keep their sperm aside as they don't know whether they'll come back from the battlefront or not.
"There are different reason why people want to save their sperm. They don't need Rs.500 or Rs.2000, they are doing it for social causes. I would definitely do it, I don't have a problem," said John, who has co-produced "Vicky Donor" with Eros International.
Directed by Shoojit Sircar, "Vicky Donor" will mark the debut of VJ Ayushmaan Khurrana and TV actress Yami Gautam, known for TV serials "Chaand Ke Paar Chalo" and "Ye Pyaar Na Hoga Kam".
