Producer Vashu Bhagnani says he was initially sceptical about his son Jackky playing a realistic role in "Rangrezz" but director Priyadarshan convinced him and now he is happy with the decision.
"He (Priyadarshan) believed that Jackky will play this role well. That time he had started shooting for 'Ajab Gazabb Love'. I was sceptical about Jackky carrying a realistic look - whether he will be able to do it or not," Bhagnani said here in an interview.
"But Santoshji (Santosh Sivan) and Priyadarshanji called me and said, 'Trust me, your son has a lot of potential and you will go mad when you will see the film. Let me make it and you watch it when it is done.' I watched it some time back and he (Jackky) has given a fantastic performance," he added.
Releasing March 21, "Rangrezz", which also stars Priya Anand and Rajpal Yadav, is about four friends and the ups and downs in their lives.
Bhagnani, known for producing high-end commercial films like "Coolie No. 1", "Hero No. 1", "Biwi No. 1" and more, says he is trying a realistic drama for the first time.
"I have definitely not made a film of this kind before, I have not been associated with realistic films. Glamour, larger than life, foreign tour, 500 dancers dancing, I believe more in that school of filmmaking," he said.
"But when I thought from Jackky's point of view and that if we are able to make a good film, that will be a new-age cinema for me. I was scared initially, but now I am happy," added the filmmaker.
