Types of Fathers portrayed on Indian Television

It is a well-known fact that the Indian television is a woman-dominated industry in its present times. Every aspect, right from the central character to thecentral plot of the series, completely revolves around women. Even then, the presence of a parental male figure is necessary for the show. Some characters get lucky that they get some screen presence, but not everyone is as lucky.

Over the years, we have seen various father figures on television. And with today being Father's Day, we at Tellybuzz have decided to list down the various types of Fathers we have come across on television.

Mai Joru Ka Ghulam Banke Rahunga

These fathers are mere puppets at the hands of their wives. But then, Why not play a puppet when your wife is strong and determined and is making all the right decisions? Two such fathers, we came across are Babasa (Ashok Lokhande) from Diya Aur Baati Hum and Ahem Ke Papa' (Manish Arora) (Kokila never called her husband by his name. looks like she never did know his name neither do we.) in Saath Nibhaana Saathiya.

Oh God, Why Me?

There is also this category of fathers on television. They must probably be wondering - oh god, why did I take up this role' or oh god, why is this role even there in the series'. Such ones are again Jigar Ke Papa' (Neeraj Bharadwaj) from Saath Nibhana Saathiya and Akshara's (Sanjeev Seth) and Naitik's (Sandeep Mehta) fathers from Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. What purpose did they actually serve?

Kya Se Kya Ho Gaya

This category is so long that we would require bulletins. These are young fathers who actually need the guidance of their fathers but have ended up becoming fathers themselves. Confusing, eh? So are we and so are they.

Naitik -Naitik (Karan Mehra) has a too perfect and all-rounder wife. And now that he is a father, he has two lost kids too. Even though Karan Mehra's screen presence has gotten a boost after he became a father in the show, Hina Khan (Akshara) still overshadows him as the perfect mother.

Raman - Raman (Karan Patel) is no doubt a doting daddy, who himself has a lot of issues. For instance, he needs to first decide his priorities. He has issues with his wife, son, brother and not to forget his long list of enemies. A Daddy with sooo many issues? What can we say?

Jigar - At an age where women would have fallen at his feet, Jigar (Vishal Singh) has two sons at whose women do fall. And what more, his sons are married as well. Okay. A lot of confusion here.

Suraj (Anas Rashid) of Diya Aur Baati Hum and Yuvraaj (Sahil Mehta) of Suhani Si Ek Ladki, both became fathers on screen just because the script demanded them too. Now, that the writers have made them fathers, they too do not know what to do with these two fathers, who are confused to no ends as to why they are fathers now.

Rangeelaa Re

These fathers are the flirty types. They believe in the Masti logic. They have a gharwali but still want a baharwali.

One such specimen is our very own Jethalal (Dilip Joshi). He is married and has a teenage son, but still keeps on hitting on 'Babita Ji'.

Then we have Shashwat (Jiten Lalwani) from Krishnadasi, who fathered a child with Tulsi (who is not Aradhya's real mother).

And how can we forget the Swaragini cast? Every character married or not, has an ex-boyfriend or an ex-girlfriend. But the least we expected was Shekhar (Sachin Tyagi), Swara (Helly Shah) and Ragini's (Tejaswi Prakash Wayangankar) father having an ex who is now his wife and Durgaprasad (Nagesh Salwan), Lakshya's (Namish Taneja) father having an ex.

Kab Baap Banega Bhai

These actors' have been married on screen since ages or so it seems to us. But when do we get to see them as fathers on screen? This list includes another long list of bulletins-

Abhi- Everyone apart from Abhi (Shabbir Ahluwalia) knows that he is not the father of Tanu's child. But the way Abhi is ready to bow down to every whim of Tanu's because he thinks he is the father is kinda adorable. We all know how doting a father, Shabbir Ahluwalia is in real life. So, it does make us wonder when will the makers decide to make Abhi a father in the show.

Sid- Sid (Ravi Dubey)and Roshni have seen many upheavals in their married life. It's high time that viewers get to see a mature Sid and Roshni who have a child of their own as they too are entitled to some happy times.

Iyer and Taarak - Every married couple in Gokuldham society has kids apart from these two couples. Both Taarak (Sailesh Lodha) and Iyer (Tanuj Mahashabde) are strongly opinionated individuals and so are their wives. It would be interesting to see whether their off springs inherit the qualities of their fathers or their mothers.

Irrespective of the types of fathers we have mentioned above, we would like to state that having a father figure is a must for everyone. Every father teaches us things that life and experience does not.

So go ahead, wish your father a Happy Father's Day and make it a day that he would remember until next year's Father's Day.
