Ha, ha, ha! He, he, he! Hu, hu, hu! Ho, ho, ho!
No,
no, no! BollyCurry hasn't gone mad and neither have we turned into Santa
Claus. It's Let's Laugh Day! So we're all having a good time laughing,
watching some of Bollywood's craziest comedy movies as we bring to you
the top 10 Bollywood Comedy Movies of the Decade not in any specific
order!
When we think of comedy, this series is probably the
first that comes into anyone's mind. We're talking about
Rohit Shetty's
successful trilogy:
Golmaal! It all began in 2006 with
Golmaal - Fun Unlimited,
which introduced 4 jobless, happy-go-lucky youngsters: Gopal (Ajay
Devgn), Madhav (
Arshad Warsi), Laxman (
Sharman Joshi in first, Shreyas
Talpade in second two), and, of course, everyone's favorite, the mute
Lucky (
Tusshar Kapoor). A fact that many people do not know, the name of
the movie stands for thier names: Go for Gopal, L for Laxman, Ma for
Madhav, and L for Lucky.
Shreyas Talpade entered as the new Laxman in
2008 in the second installment of the movie,
Golmaal Returns, with a brief explanation that
Sharman Joshi's character Laxman was dead. This trilogy continued its success with 2010's
Golmaal 3. It's Let Laugh Day and what better way to laugh then to watch this foursome at their comic best?"
Main Baburao Ganpatrao Apte." Recognize this line? It's from two very famous comedy movies:
Hera Pheri and Phir Hera Pheri.
A movie about 3 jobless, middle-class males: Raju (
Akshay Kumar),
Ghanshyam, in short Shyam (
Suniel Shetty), and Baburao Ganpatrao Apte
called Babu Bhaiyya (
Paresh Rawal). Despite the fact that they are
frustrated with their life, they are living it with laughter and fun.
Both movies are known for the comic fights between the trio and then for
the elaborate (
and long) climax scenes which is
Priyadarshan's trademark. You cannot but help and laugh at these
mindless chase sequences where finally all the issues are resolved with a
happily ever after ending!
Circuit and Munna. Who can forget these two names! We're talking about the one and only
Munnabhai M.B.B.S.
When the movie released in 2003, people couldn't stop laughing at
Circuit's (
Arshad Warsi) antics and Munnabhai's (
Sanjay Dutt) fights
with the professors. Munnabhai and Circuit were goons but with a twist.
Unlike most of the hindi film goons (who usually tease the heroine and
then get beaten by the hero), Munnabhai and Circuit were "social
workers" with a heart of gold. The two did things that brought smiles to
other people's faces. They helped people out by making other peoples
lives miserable. And when the two entered Dr. Asthana's (
Boman Irani)
life, they turned his life into a maze of craziness with hilarious
results. The statutory warning at the beginning of the movie says it
all! This movie is bound to make you laugh!
Hungama, the
next movie on our list, is another classic
Priyadarshan and
Paresh Rawal
movie. This duo always makes viewers laugh with their sometimes subtle,
sometimes in-your-face comedy. This movie revolves around the lives of
Jeetu (Akshay Khanna) and Nandu (
Aftab Shivdasani), both who are from
rich families, but go against their families will to fulfill their own
dreams. When Anjali (
Rimi Sen) enters into their lives, everything turns
upside down and inside out. Radheshyam Tiwari (
Paresh Rawal), Anjali
Tiwari (
Shoma Anand), and Tejabhai (
Shakti Kapoor), among others, are
all there to add much fun to the craziness. And, of course, the movie
ends with the regular chaotic climax sequence.
Sameer (Salman
Khan) is an angry young man with anger management issues. He moves to
Goa after making a promise to his grandmother that he won't get angry.
Here he meets Rani (
Priyanka Chopra), whom he falls in love with. But
soon trouble arrives in the form of Sunny (
Akshay Kumar), who leaves no
chance of trying to make Sameer get angry. That's the beginning of
Mujhse Shaadi Karoge.
The various sequences between Sameer and Sunny make for a fine laugh,
especially the scene when Sameer drinks quite a bit and starts
seeing seven Sunnys.
Watch this movie and do tell us at BollyCurry whether we're right or not.
This movie is not the regular run-of-the-mill, in-your-face comedy movie. Yet, this movie surely is quite a comedy!
Delhi Belly mainly
revolves around 3 roommates: Tashi (
Imran Khan), Nitin Beri (Kunaal Roy
Kapur), and Arup (
Vir Das). The three come across a package when Sonia
(
Shenaz Treasurywala) gives the package to Tashi to deliver. This
package soon gets lost and the movie delivers quite a hilarious sequence
as the 3 friends go about Delhi searching for this package and
attempting to deliver it to the right location.
A must watch for all movie lovers!
Seek as a remake of 1979's
Golmaal this
movie is a hilarious side-splitting laugh riot! With Prithviraj
Raghuvanshi's (
Ajay Devgn) hilarious English translations and Abbas
Ali's (
Abhishek Bachchan) attempts to save his job and life,
Bol Bachchan is
sure to keep you holding your sides in your attempt to control your
laughter.
Krushna Abhishek and
Asrani only add to the comedy timing of
the movie with their fights of Ravi and Shastri. And like all Rohit
Shetty movies, there is bound to be lots of
tod-phod as villains are beaten, cars are broken, and heroines are saved.
You may not think of this movie as an out-and-out comedy movie, and you are right.
3 Idiots was a mix of everything. A little bit of comedy, a little bit of drama, a little bit of realism, a little bit of romanticism,
3 Idiots has
it all! No one can forget Ranchhoddas "Rancho" Shamladas Chhanchad's
(
Aamir Khan) hilarious times at the Imperial College of Engineering,
where he makes friends in the form of Farhan (
R. Madhavan) and Raju
(
Sharman Joshi). Here he makes Professor Viru "Virus" Sahastrabuddhe's
(
Boman Irani) life hell as he keeps causing trouble in Chatur "Silencer"
Ramalingam (
Omi Vaidya). It's hard to forget the famous "balatkar"
speech, or
so we think, at BollyCurry.
Partner brings
together the hit duo
Govinda and David Dhawan along with
Salman Khan.
Prem (
Salman Khan) meets Bhaskar Diwakar Chaudhary (
Govinda), who loves
his boss Priya Jaisingh (
Katrina Kaif), but is unable to express this
love. Being Love Guru, Prem eventually decides to help Bhaskar. He also
meets Naina (
Lara Dutta) and Chhota Don (
Rajpal Yadav). He falls in love
with Naina, who is always running from Chhota Don. The story and the
comedy revolves around Prem's attempts to get Naina and his attempts to
help Bhaskar become a sophisticated man who Priya would like, though
Priya falls in love with the simpleton Bhaskar. Bound to make you
emotional and also to make you laugh,
Partner is a complete package.
Finally, we bring to you a small budget, but big laughter movie,
Tere Bin Laden.
Ali Hassan (
Ali Zafar) is a Pakistani reporter who wants to migrate to
US for a better life, but on his way there he ends up scaring his fellow
passengers and flight crew members when he uses the words "hijack" and
"bomb" too many times during his audition. He is deported back to
Pakistan, is refused a visa 6 times in 7 years, and he has lost all
hope. Then he meets Noora (Pradhuman Singh), who looks like Osama Bin
Laden and decides to make a fake Osama tape to fulfill his dreams. Ali
Hassan's antics are sure to keep you laughing and
we at BollyCurry strongly recommend that you go and watch this movie. It's
Let's Laugh Day and hence, BollyCurry, has decided that today we're all
going to have some masti, some fun, and laugh loads. Go and watch
Bollywood's best comedy films. We only named a few out of the plenty
that are out there!
But remember don't just laugh because
it's Let's Laugh Day. Laugh everyday of your life because as Charlie
Chaplin has said, "A day without laughter is a day wasted."
