Different themes are debuting on Indian Television these days. Directors and producers are making a successful attempt at breaking creative barriers. However, the trend of revenge dramas seems to have caught pace with the makers as well as the audience. Here are top 5 revenge dramas that entertained audience to the hilt.
Take a look-
Never even in their wildest dreams would Barun Sobti fans imagine that their chocolate boy Barun would turn into a vengeful man, who would go to any lengths to get his revenge.
Topping TRP charts every weekend was Ekta Kapoor's revenge drama Naagin season one and two. Naagin was the story about two ichchhadaari naagins- Shivanya(Mouni Roy) and Shesha(Adaa Khan). Shivanya's parents are killed by the Raheja family head Ankush Raheja, his brother Viren, his friend Sailesh and two other unidentified people, who forcefully take possession of a sacred stone- Naagmani. Shivanya and her friend Shesha are back to avenge the death of Shivanya's parents who dedicated their lives to protect the Naagmani and take it back from the killers, for which Shivanya marries the Raheja son, Rithik (Arjun Bijlani).
Ek Hasina Thi
Ek Hasina Thi is the story of two sisters Payal (Teena Chopra) and Nitya (Aditi Sajwan) and their fight against the rich and influential Goenka family for justice. Goenka scion Shaurya Goenka (Vatsal Sheth) makes a bet with his friends that he will impress Nitya at any cost. However, when Nitya gets to know about this, she is furious with Shaurya and slaps him. Shaurya in turn, rapes Nitya's sister Payal. But thanks to money and power play, Shaurya is declared innocent by the court, leading to Payal loosing her mental equilibrium, landing her in a mental asylum. Then begins the power-packed revenge drama with Nitya re-entering as Durga Thakur (Sanjeeda Shaikh) after getting a face transplant.
Paanch - Don't get mad, get even!
Paanch is the story of Roshni Kataria (Sheetal Singh) who sacrifices her dreams of becoming a scientist to avenge her sister's death at her college under mysterious circumstances. Roshni's sister Neha (Akansha Kapil) is tortured by a group of five seniors. Roshni joins Neha's college and slowly manages to eliminate her killers and successfully avenges her sister's death but in the process ends up falling prey to those five seniors herself! What follows is a story full of revenge, suspense, drama and betrayal!
Main Naa Bhoolungi is a melodramatic revenge drama revolving around a married couple Shikha (Aishwarya Sakhuja) and Sameer Verma (Vikas Manaktala). Sameer cunningly makes a plan where he makes Shikha fall for him. They get married and after having a baby, Sameer attempts to kill Shikha by throwing her off a cliff and takes away their baby. Sameer then gets back to his original life and it is then revealed that Sameer is actually Aditya Jagannath and that he is already married to Madhurima (Nigaar Z. Khan). Shikha survives her fall and is heart-broken, but at the same times is determined to get back her son Manav. Shikha revamps herself completely from a behenji to an ultra-mod hottie and enters Aditya's life. After many twists and turns and near misses, Shikha finally manages to punish the culprits Aditya and Madhurima. In an ironic twist of events, when during a scuffle Aditya falls off the cliff from where he threw Shikha, she grabs a hold of Aditya's hand, but lets go, the same way he did to her and happily walks away with her son. Period.
Chhal-Sheh Aur Maat marked the debut of not one but two good-looking male actors. Avinesh Rekhi and Abhishek Malik. The plot goes as- Aditi Jaiswal (Hunar Hali), is supposed to be dead according to her family. But she is not. Aditi feels that her husband Kabir Jaiswal (Avinesh Rekhi) is behind her killing and comes back for a revenge. She pretends to be Neha and gets married to Rishi (Abhishek Malik). She purposely makes Kabir believe that she is Aditi's look alike, so that she can destroy him. Chhal... was a complete gamble in terms of both its lead actors as they were new comers. Even though Chhal... started as a hardcore thriller, it lost its charm and gradually drifted from its core concept, turning into a yet another family drama.
