Top 10 Indian Web Shows
While TV and films continue to roll out presentations, if there has been one savior for all of us in the past two years especially - it has to be OTT. Quality content, leisure viewing and a plethora of genres, it has been a delight for one and all. While 2021 did not have the same amount of fantastical shows on OTT like 2020 but it was still enough for us to list the Top 10 hindi web shows of 2021. Let's roll with it-
10. Bombay Begums

Netflix's tryst with Indian content has included having mores misses than hits but Bombay Begums was a breath of fresh air. The show had several flaws indeed but it was good enough to feature some fine talent with a refreshing storyline. It was all the more interesting as apart from having an all-female led cast, it marked the return to acting for Pooja Bhatt after two decades.
9. Special Ops 1.5 - The Himmat Story

The spin-off to Special Ops that came out last, Special Ops 1.5 - The Himmat Story was a fine and worthy continuation of the universe. Two factors worked best for the show - one was the fact that the fantastic Kay Kay Menon did absolute justice to the role of Himmat and all the more impressive as he got centre stage to do so. The other factor being that the show was only 4 episodes long which was a great call by the makers to keep it short and sweet and only as much needed.
8. Potluck
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaP21AFxu-g
There has been a constant dearth of sitcoms on Indian entertainment space and all the more on the web space. And hence, Potluck on Sony LIV was a great reminder that a good sitcom an arrive on web and be good as well. The show was a light and breezy family sitcom and it was a delight to see it on a streaming platform.
7. The Empire
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OP0nou-f0yU
The Empire on Disney+ Hotstar was incredibly flawed and even a tad boring at instances. But one cannot deny the sheer grandeur it presented and the detailing that the characters, costumes and production design had was brilliant. It was marketed as the biggest show to come out of India on the web space and it definitely lived up to that specific promise. Also, a worthy digital debut for Drashti Dhami in the web world.
6. Gullak Season 2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBtzqt7QvT0
If you haven't seen Gullak yet, that might be the first thing you want to do. The endearing show about the Gupta family had a fantastic first season and a good second season as well. In times of dramas and heavy shows dominating the web space, a light-hearted and warming show with two good seasons is the perfect break one needs.
5. Aspirants
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViOutJ0kuJY
It wouldn't be a 'best shows' list to round up if there isn't atleast one show from TVF (this list has two). Aspirants came from TVF's trusted and loved formula of coming up with fine youth shows who somehow always crack it with the examination setup. The show was about aspirants who juggle their lives while giving the incredibly difficult UPSC exam and their personal lives. With fine acting and a taut screenplay and of course, free viewing, Aspirants was one of the best this year.
4. Broken But Beautiful 3
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P93oLX4Wtg0
Already riding high on the massive success of two seasons, Broken But Beautiful spawned a third season but with a new cast. While the first couple of seasons were fantastic enough, the stakes got really high with the late Sidharth Shukla and Sonia Rathee coming in. Shukla's immense popularity helped the show a lot and we can surely say, Shukla would have felt proud that this will be his last acting project.
3. Aarya 2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSVD5w1zw0g&t=2s
After what was a baller of a season last year, it was suspected if Aarya will be able to follow up with an equally good season this year. It did so brilliantly and in some ways, it even bettered the first one. At the helm was the formidable Sushmita Sen again as she proved that what a fine actor she has always been and always underutilised.
2. Mumbai Diaries 26/11
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOctqKM5dW4
Given how there have been multiple shows and films already being made on the dreaded 26/11 terrorist attack, there was a wondering if another show on the same concept would be up to it. What we got was one of the best web shows in India this year. Tackling the topic as a medical drama, Mumbai Diaries focused on the angle of the doctors in the hospital which was also attacked apart from a small parallel storyline of the attack on the five-star hotel as well. Apart from offering almost everything perfectly, it was the towering performance of Mohit Raina that was the best part about it.
1. The Family Man Season 2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGf_B81Hc2M&t=69s
Second seasons usually have a sense of immediate question mark - will it live up to the first one? The Family Man Season 2 defeated those odds and how. Not only did the show brought in a brilliant second season but did so in the most exhilarating way possible. Manoj Bajpayee has safely become the ultimate superstar of the web space and Samantha Ruth Prabhu couldn't have asked for a better digital debut.
Which was your favorite show this year? Leave in your comments below.
