Parents are believed to be the most quizzed individuals in the universe. The sort of questions parents tend to get asked varies greatly, but the most difficult are the awkward queries raised by their children. With so much of exposure in media to bizarre ads, movies, telly shows and a wide reach of the web, parents are often bombarded with such questions on a daily basis.
TellyBuzz got in touch with some telly celebs and asked them which are the awkward moment when their kids asked them something and they couldn't answer it. Let's have a look...
Ronit Bose Roy who has been a part of some very popular shows like Adaalat, Kasautii Zindagii Kay and Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi recently tweeted:"This new drink Orangina's ad says Orangegasm! How do I explain this word to my kids. Shame!"
In conversation with TellyBuzz, Ronit says, "My tweet says it all that I had to say on the matter. My daughter is 8 years old and my son is just 5. I was in the car with them when we came across this hoarding. My kids asked me what did it meant. That was an awkward moment for me. I feel advertising should carry a moral responsibility especially when it comes to products that are identifiable with young impressionable minds".
Neelu Vaghela: Neelu who is playing the role of Bhabho in Star Plus' hit show Diya Aur Baati Hum says, "I remember that day very well. It had hardly been just 2-3 months after 'Diya Aur Baati Hum' had gone on air that I got nominated in one of the category of a television awards. However, I didn't win and when I reached back home my daughter Vanshika who was 6 yrs old then asked me, "Mumma, why you did not get the award?" That innocent question made me feel so awkward and embarrassed. It made me go speechless. I couldn't justify it to her. But the very next time when I got nominated and also won the award, it was the happiest moment for me because I finally made my daughter feel proud."
Gireesh Sahdev: Gireesh, is essaying the role of Avatar Singh, a father of four kids in the show Best Of Luck Nikki- Season 3 on Disney Channel. In reality the actor is a parent to two kids. He says, "My daughter is 11 years old and my son is just 6. My little son is always loaded with so many queries. If ever I come across any such question that is not suitable for their age, I always tell them frankly that they are too young for it and once they turn 18 years, they would be eligible to get familiar with it." Recalling that one awkward moment, Gireesh says, "Whenever we watch a movie together and if there's a kissing or any such intimate sequence, both my children close their eyes. This is because being a parent, we have taught them what is right and what is not, and they should never do anything which will make them feel shy or embarrassed."
Sameer Dharmadhikari: Sameer who is soon going to be spotted in the much talked about show 'Mahabharat' on Star Plus says, "I've a daughter, Saraswati who will turn 10 years very soon. Born in a media family she is pretty much aware of the happenings around. Quite often, my friends and co-actors visit my residence. The usual hugs and kisses with my co-stars are understood by Saraswati, who feels that it's all part of our life. We don't need to explain it to her." However, recalling another incident, Sameer adds, "My daughter once asked me, 'Dad why do you wear red underwear?' (Laughs). That was one awkward moment for me."
Gauri Yadav Tonk: Last seen on Crime Patrol on Sony TV, Gauri Tonk says, "Yes, definitely I've encountered such awkward situations, not once but many times. Just few days back, I was watching a Hindi soap opera with my family, whose name I cannot disclose. The show had repetitive use of the phrase "Sharirik Sambandh" (physical relationship). Children at a tender age ought to raise questions looking for its meaning. At such point of time, I find it awkward to explain to my daughter Pari, who is 9 years old. As we share a good mother-daughter, she understands it when I tell her 'This is not the right time'. In some cases, we have to be intelligent and portray ourselves as stupid. The television people and the ad makers also have kids; they need to understand and maintain some professional ethics. Or such adult stuff should be aired in a particular time slot, when the children will probably not watch it".
Manasi Joshi Roy: Manasi who is remembered for her very strong character in the show Saaya on Sony TV says, "All I would say is that positioning of these advertisements should be monitored because kids are exposed to them by default. And it's the parents who are left stumped because its age inappropriate for me to be explaining a condom ad, or for example 'What does Orangegasm mean' to my 10 year old daughter, Kiara." When questioned how Manasi handles such situations, she says, "You have to play it smart with some quick thinking".
