Sunjay Kapur's company Sona Comstar issues first statement; not family, but this person to manage the firm

One of the giants of India’s automobile industry Sunjay Kapur passed away on June 12, 2025 in the most shocking manner. He was playing polo in London where he accidentally swallowed a bee. It caused a cardiac arrest and efforts to revive him did not succeed. Sona Comstar, the automobile manufacturing firm founded by him is worth Rs 39,000 crores. Reports of who would inherit the company began to do the rounds. It seems his sisters, Superna and Mandira might inherit it as his children are not yet of that age. Samiera, his daughter turned 18 two years ago. His sons, Kiaan and Azarius are quite young.

Today, the board of directors of Sona Comstar issued a statement mourning his demise. They also offered their condolences to the grieving Kapur family. They said his vision, values and dedication to excellence will guide the firm in going ahead with its ventures.

The Board of Directors of the Company has had in place a professional management team under the leadership of its Managing Director and CEO, Mr. Vivek Vikram Singh, since 2019. We have full faith in the management team’s ability to lead the Company under the supervision of the Board.

Vivek Vikram Singh, the CMD has an engineering degree from HBTI, Kanpur and an MBA from IIM-Ahmedabad as per his LinkedIn profile. They also said that the directors will have a meeting to elect a new chairman in due course. The statement gave an assurance to all business partners that the management will remain the same.

Sunjay Kapur took over the business from his father, late Surinder Kapur. The businessman was married and divorced twice from Nandita Mahtani and Karisma Kapoor. His third wife was London-based entrepreneur Priya Sachdev.
