Sonu Nigam on why he didn't accept the Padma Shri initially

Legendary singer Sonu Nigam was recently conferred upon with the prestigious award of getting the title of Padma Sri. However, it is rather interesting that he was initially not keen on accepting the honor.

In a recent interview with a news agency, Nigam revealed that he had initially said that he wouldn't be able to accept the award. While recalling his conversation with the government authorities, the singer said that it is a little too late in the day to give him Padma Shri.

Nigam said that when he got the call from a government representative, he told him that there were many singers who started their career 15 years after him were honoured five years ago.

According to him, we are also human beings and we also get lured by these temptations. The singer further added that Is there a person who would be felicitated with an award and would not like it? He shared that those who don’t get it, only say they it like that. It’s a good feeling to be given acclamation and recognition at the right time.

According to him, Justice given late isn’t called justice. So, he made it clear that he won’t be able to accept this award.

Coming to why he accepted it now, he said that he then realised that he has not lobbied for the award and it has come from the universe and this motivated him to accept it.

Nigam is soon set to mark his comeback to Bollywood with Aamir Khan starrer, Laal Singh Chaddha.
