Our society has a metal block that girls are supposed to pursue hobbies like dance, music or any other form of art, whereas the boys are pushed to sports or martial arts. Why the difference? That too in this age and day! Somewhere we start differentiating between both the sexes' right from their birth and today join in for candle marches asking for gender equality. The change has to begin from within, our homes and our minds.
Story:
Akira is a tale of a small town girl, by the same name; who is brought up by her father, with certain set of morals and values. When Akira falls into a trap of corruption, and dirty politics she fights back without the support of her dysfunctional family, or friends; this forms the crux of the story.

Sonakshi Sinha without a doubt! She has emerged as a strong actor and that can be felt all throughout the movie. The person you see on screen is 'Akira', you will forget that you are watching a Sonakshi Sinha movie. This one is sans the laktke-jhatke that Sonakshi usually portrays on screen. The tenacious task she has gone through, to get into shape and learn martial arts, has finally paid off screen.
Though Sonakshi is the main protagonist, and does an impeccable job, Anurag Kashyap steals the show. He plays a corrupt police officer, who bends and mends the law according to his whims and fancies, to cover his malpractices within the department. His expertise as a director was known to all, but the venomous take he exudes onscreen is simply awesome. Other director who have been trying to get into acting, should take some tips from Anurag for sure.
The story line is tried before in Bollywood but not particularly with a female protagonist. A.R. Murgadoss has spun Sonakshi Sinha, 360 degree around, to give us a stellar actor.
Low Points:
The film has a good pace in the 1st half, but post interval the movie tends to drag until the climax. The audience loses interest in the due course. Amit Sadh is a show piece. Konkona Sen Sharma is not given enough screen space, which quite an injustice to an amazing actor. She has been shown pregnant in the movie, which doesn't add any substantiality to the plot of the film.
Overall:
All in all the movie has a hard hitting message, and is a must watch as every person should know the system and the rules and regulations. Like a dialogue in the film states, 'the person who sees wrong being done, is the one who is disabled, not the one who is blind.'

I never thought of her as much as she always appeared in movies where the role of a female lead means nothing to the story. But Akira was awesome! After watching Akira, I definitely have a lot more respect for her as an actor. I hope she continues to take roles where the female lead is prominent.
