Despite hailing from a royal family, Soha Ali Khan, along with her brother Saif Ali Khan, has faced her own set of challenges. In a recent revelation, Soha shared her journey from working a corporate job to pursuing a career in Bollywood.
In a conversation with Curly Tales, Soha discussed her unconventional path. Despite her upbringing in a theatrical environment, she opted for a corporate job to carve her own identity away from the footsteps of her mother, Sharmila Tagore, and brother Saif.
Recalling her corporate stint, Soha highlighted the financial struggles she faced, despite her prestigious background. Soha said that she was the first person in her family to have a degree so she went for a corporate job and got an annual package of Rs 2 lakh.
The Rang De Basanti actress said, "It was a post-graduate salary and I was paying Rs 17,000 rent a month in Mumbai at the time. I don’t know what’s your impression of the royal families but there not a lot of cash."
Driven by the allure of a more lucrative career, Soha made the bold decision to transition into films. She said that she compared her salary to her first film "and even the most basic math could tell me that a career in films is more profitable."
However, she didn't tell her family that she resigned from the job for the film for which she got replaced later. The actress said, “Joining films was my choice, much against the wishes of my parents. I didn’t tell them for 3 months that I had quit my job and I was working on a film that never actually happened. The directors went with two very well-established actors and I didn’t have a job."
On the work front, Soha Ali Khan continues to explore diverse roles. While her last appearance was in the 2018 film 'Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster 3', she is gearing up for the release of the OTT film 'Chhorii 2', alongside Nushrratt Bharuccha. Expressing her interest in thrillers, she looks forward to collaborating with esteemed directors like Sriram Raghavan, Hansal Mehta, and Tanuja Chandra.
