There is a very important rule in the industry and that is out of sight means out of mind. If artists do not make themselves visible, they might end up not getting much work. This is quite a stressful situation. Actress Afreen Alvi, who did shows such as Naagin 4 and Shubh Laabh, too agrees and shares her viewpoint.

“This is what the industry has been following in the past years and according to me it does add to the pressure, but not totally because now we have so many platforms to showcase our talent, creativity and skills. I believe that just sitting at home and feeling pressured is not applicable anymore,” she says.

Social media is a place where celebs often share bits and pieces of their lives. But not everything about them is grabbing attention. “People have different preferences and they are hooked to celebs’ bold and entertaining content, and also their personal life,” she adds.

Many feel that actors, who have no attention-grabbing intention, mind their own business, and may sometimes go unnoticed in spite of doing good work.  On whether she has experienced it personally, she shares, “As of now I don’t think that I have achieved that level which will make me noticeable every time, wherever I go. But sometimes people notice and of course I enjoy that attention because whatever I have done, I have worked hard for it.”

Actors go through a lot of professional pressures that include not just taking up a project, but to be visible on social media, then there are competition, insecurities, even  looks and what the audience reactions would be also give them sleepless nights.

“Honestly I don’t feel any pressure now but at the start of my career I used to be worried, insecure, sad and irritated but I was very determined and worked hard. I understood the importance of patience very early,” she continues, “We cannot measure success. Even when we reach our goal, and fulfil our ambition, we are not satisfied and want more. That is human nature.”

So are you satisfied with the way your career is shaping up? “Nobody is fully satisfied with their career but at a certain point we realise that all we want is happiness. If I see how I started and what I am doing right now, I feel happy and thankful, but I still want to do more and grow as an artist,” she adds.
