Santoor exponent Shivkumar Sharma has for the first time composed music for Kamlesh Sonawala's Gujarati album "Sangathan". It is something he had never thought he would do.
"It's a great opportunity for me to compose different music for a different language which I haven't dreamt of doing," Shivkumar said in a statement.
Lauding composer Sonawala's work, Sharma said: "'Sangathan' is a very different album which has very lovely ghazals in Gujarati. We have never seen this kind of album ever before."
Organised by Cultural Institution Image Book Culture Trust, the album launch also saw the presence of singer Lalitya Munshaw in Mumbai Tuesday.
The album brings together an ensemble of singers like Roop Kumar Rathod, Pankaj Udhas, Shujaat Husain Khan, Kaumudi Munshi, Ashwini Bhide Deshpande, Purvi Parikh, Anup Jalota, Uday Mazumdar, Vijay Prakash and Jahnavi Shrimankar.
Sonawala is glad to bring together so many singers for one project.
"Music is a universal language. I thank god for giving me such a beautiful opportunity to bring the classical maestros in one album," said the artiste, who has also penned the lyrics for all the nine tracks in "Sangathan".
This is Sonawala's fourth album after "Sammohan", "Samvedan" and "Sanjivan".
