Pretty and bubbly Sherish Ali, Chavi of Star Plus' popular show Diya Aur Baati Hum (Shashi Sumeet Productions), is currently not seen on the show. Well, we got to know that during this break the enthusiastic girl is busy learning a great art of Taekwondo.
We tried to dig deep into Sehrish' motive behind learning this art and how this art is helping her in attaining mental and physical fitness. Sehrish says, "A good friend of mine Farhaan Wasti, three times Black Belt in Taekwondo, has been practising it since 17 years. He has also been the winner of Muscle Mania. During my school days, I used to learn Karate, was a Yellow Belt but then I couldn't continue. Later, I realized that I should continue it. Farhaan guided me about learning Taekwondo. He also told me that Taekwondo helps a person to maintain mental and physical discipline. It keeps you mentally calm and it's a very good art of self defence that every girl should learn. Instead of blaming others for any kind of miss-happenings, if girls will learn such arts then no one will dare to do anything bad to them. With the help of this art, I have been able to test my physical endurance."
We asked Sehrish as what are the changes she is experiencing within herself after learning this art. She says, "I started experiencing a different kind of confidence within myself from the time I started learning it. Farhaan inspired me to learn Taekwondo and he is my coach as well. Taekwondo is a Korean art. The word Taekwondo means - The art of kicks and punches. I am more confident than before. Being a girl I have experienced this, I used to think a lot before moving out of my house whether it's the right time or not but now I go out freely because I know the art of self defence."
"Taekwondo helps in knowing your inner power and when you know that then you also start forgiving people. I have started forgiving people more easily now. The art is helping me to achieve mental and physical discipline. Mental discipline because I have started forgiving people and physical discipline because I am fit. I am doing Taekwondo with 70% Kicks and 30% Punches. I go to gym and for Taekwondo classes too, so its a double workout sessions for me. My three days of workout in the gym gets equals to 2 hours of Taekwondo class. So, I am physically fit, mentally disciplined and I know how to defend myself. This is like a meditation for me and I am loving it."
So, what opinion does Sehrish has about girls learning this art in our country? She opines, "It's a very good art of self defence and every girl of our country should know this art. Taekwondo is an art of Korea and in Korea, the government pays to get the kids learn this act. I think our country should also have this system too. If all the girls will get to learn this act, then they will feel safe and confident and everybody will be equal."
"I also keep talking about this art with my co-stars - Karan Goddwani, Pooja Singh, Anas Bhai (Anas Rashid) and everybody on sets. I am also looking forward to keep a punching bag on the sets to practice punching during breaks. Even my friend has started calling me Miss Taekwondo. It gives you a great result and makes you look smart," she concludes.
Way to go Sehrish!
