Saiyaara's success a testimony to power of original songs in a film? Irshad Kamil answers

Saiyaara has crossed the Rs 100 crore mark in India in three days. No one would have imagined that the film would turn out to be such a monster at the box office. The music of the movie, especially the title track has had a huge role to play in this matter. Everyone is in love with the songs. Mohit Suri is known for his excellent taste in music as it is revealed in his filmography. Irshad Kamil who wrote the songs said he hoped this would make producers rethink about their film’s music. Bollywood buffs were complaining that remixes have taken the soul out of movies.

Irshad Kamil told us, “I really wish Saiyaara champions the cause of original music. As a songwriter, I have always advocated for original songs and music in a movie.” He also said that filmmakers need to work with a single composer and lyricist for a movie.

When you work with a single composer and lyricist, they understand the script perfectly. Then, their songs do justice to the emotion of the movie with a sense of continuity.

Irshad Kamil had praised Ahaan Panday for his lip sync skills. He said that Bollywood actors who could do that built a better connect with audiences. He believes that songs that are lip-synced do better than ones playing in the background. It should be noted that Ahaan Panday grew up watching Shah Rukh Khan. The superstar is known for his excellent lip sync skills in the industry.

On the work front, Kamil's next project is Tere Ishk Mein and Ek Din. He is reuniting with Aanand L Rai with whom he has delivered some of his best songs. The movie is seen as a spiritual successor to Raanjhanaa. "He has an excellent ear for music. Fans will be in love with the musical score of this movie," he said.
