Bollywood legend Dilip Kumar passed away at the age of 98. The Indian Cinema Thespian was taken to a hospital last week after complaining of breathlessness - the second time he was hospitalised this month. A tweet posted from the actor's official handle by family friend Faisal Farooqui read: "With a heavy heart and profound grief, I announce the passing away of our beloved Dilip Saab a few minutes ago. We are from God and to him we return."

Dilip Kumar is survived by his wife Saira Banu and their love story melts millions of hearts. Despite an age difference of 22 years, the couple survived the test of time and set an example for generations to follow.

The news of Dilip Kumar’s sad demise broke Saira Banu as she said that her 'reason for living' has been 'snatched away'.

Pulmonologist Dr Jalil Parkar confirmed the news of Dilip Ji’s sad demise, and told Peeping Moon that Saira Banu said to him after Dilip's death, "God snatched away my reason for living. Without Sahab, I won't be able to think about anything. Everyone, please pray."

The late actor will be buried at Mumbai's Juhu Kabristan in Santacruz later in the day, according to a statement issued on his official Twitter account.

Dilip Kumar was diagnosed with bilateral pleural effusion, a build-up of excess fluid between the layers of the pleura outside the lungs, and underwent a successful pleural aspiration procedure. He was discharged after five days in early June only to be admitted to the hospital again later in the same month.

Earlier, Saira Banu had slammed the death rumours and stated that he will get discharged in 2-3 days. She had written on Twitter: "Don’t believe in WhatsApp forwards. Saab is stable. Thank you for your heart-felt duas and prayers. As per doctors, he should be home in 2-3 days. Insh’Allah."
