Akelli
With an overflow of hits and back-to-back crowd-pulling movies, debutant director Pranay Meshram is here with a survival thriller drama 'Akelli'. Loosely inspired by a real-life incident, the story presents Nushrratt Bharuccha as the main lead. Already clashing with 'Dream Girl 2' and other films still keeping it strong with their collections, let's see if 'Akelli' has the potential to survive the box office war and stand out.

Plot and Screenplay
'Akelli' masterfully weaves a survival thriller-drama around Jyoti, a resilient young woman navigating the tumultuous path of job hunting to support her family. Her journey leads her to Iraq, where she unwittingly becomes ensnared in a maelstrom of chaos as terrorists seize control of Iran, resulting in harrowing migrant massacres. This gripping narrative follows Jyoti's indomitable spirit as she battles oppression and horror, ultimately emerging as a symbol of courage and determination.
The film delves into the darkest aspects of humanity, portraying bloodshed, brutality, and violence in an unflinchingly raw manner. Amidst the heart-pounding chase sequences, there's a deliberate sense of unease, capturing the audience's attention while contemplating the impending climax. Although the movie's intensity occasionally tests patience during its two-hour runtime, it effectively mirrors the relentless pursuit Jyoti finds herself in. "Akelli" isn't tailored for the faint-hearted.
The Nushrratt Bharuccha show
The film's pinnacle is undeniably Nushrratt Bharuccha's extraordinary performance, arguably her career best. As Jyoti, Nushrratt seamlessly embodies her character, delivering an impeccable portrayal that resonates with finesse and unwavering dedication. Jyoti's journey becomes palpable—her anguish and oppression are deeply felt, while her unwavering determination elicits genuine admiration. Nushrratt's rendition navigates a spectrum of emotions: from poignant vulnerability to fiery determination, each facet exquisitely depicted.
The game of survival and thrills
While certain moments and sequences endeavor to sustain the suspense, the overall storyline succumbs to predictability, undermining its potential. The script's capacity to engage is somewhat lacking, struggling to maintain a firm hold. Consequently, it frequently diverges from the central theme, resulting in sporadic detachment. The narrative's ability to captivate falters, leaving viewers disengaged. The director has also tried to add a romantic angle which even though cliched fits and at the end does make sense. Nishant Dahiya as Rafeeq (Jyoti's love interest) delivers and support's Jyoti's character with grace.
The Setting and BGM
The film adeptly captures its setting, skillfully portraying Iran's essence through well-crafted hideouts, desolate landscapes, and evocative ruins. Notably, the Irani terrorists' performances are commendable, injecting authenticity and complexity into the narrative's fabric. Enhanced by a captivating background score, the film effectively heightens both suspense and tension, contributing significantly to the immersive experience, as and when it arises.
The Verdict
In his directorial debut 'Akelli', Pranay Meshram earnestly endeavors. Despite the film's occasional lack of engagement and noticeable imperfections, it gains merit from Nushrratt Bharuccha's performance, which radiates fineness and conviction.
