Web series are definitely taking the entertainment industry by storm. Every platform is creating and producing as many series as they can with several unexplored concepts and actors too are keen on working in the digital space. The latest series that is creating a lot of buzz around is Zee 5’s new release Kaafir. The series features Dia Mirza and Mohit Raina in lead roles and follows the story of a young Pakistani woman named Kainaz who enters India due to some strange circumstances and is mistaken to be a militant. Kainaz has been living behind the bars since many years and also gives birth to her daughter Seher in the jail. The show is based on a true story where this woman struggles to get to her country and a lawyer turned journalist Vedaant Rathore helps her out of her misery.
Plot:
The series starts with introducing us to the family of Vedaant Rathore (Mohit Raina), who is performing a Puja on his late brother’s first death anniversary. Shortly, we are introduced to the fact that his late brother was in the Army and died because of some militants. Suddenly, his brother, also an army officer gets a call that they have found bodies of two militants (because of them their brother died) and he gives a suspicious look to Vedant and takes him to the spot.
We find out that Vedant, who is a lawyer may have advocated for them. Cut to eight years later, when Vedant has left advocacy and is now a renowned journalist. While working on a human interest story he happens to learn about Kainaz and her daughter and vows to help them by broadcasting their story to the world.
Kainaz opens up about her unfortunate story and we are drawn towards her innocence and the sensitive issue of militants.

Performances:
Dia Mirza as Kainaaz looks breathtaking. Her sheer innocence and helplessness will evoke sympathy within you. Her daughter Seher is the most engaging character in the series and while she has few dialogues, her silence speaks a lot. Mohit Raina has delivered a rather strong performance and fits the role to the tee. Other actors in supporting roles have done a fine job too.
Direction:
The story is based on a very sensitive issue and Sonam has handled it very well. Though writing could have been a little better, but with such stories you have to be careful with the treatment. Cinematography is nice and the characters are developed well.
Verdict:
Give it a shot if you enjoy watching such dramas, the series won’t disappoint you.
