REVIEW: Barun Sobti - Surbhi Jyoti starrer Tanhaiyan Will Have you High On Emotions...

...and, not just make you smile and cry, but also feel the hate and love!

Barun Sobti - Surbhi Jyoti starrer web series'Tanhaiyan' came in as a 'Valentine's Day' saviour and treat for all. With 10 episodes all uploaded together, the web series gave us all a chance to spend some good 2 hours 15 minutes. Produced by Gul Khan (4 Lions Films) and directed by Gorky M, Tanhaiyan is sure to take you on a ride of emotions.

If you are yet to see it, or half way through, here's our take on the series.

The Story:

It's Avantika (Priya Tandon) weds Siddharth (Mohit Abrol) on the block. And, on the occasion of the wedding, all their friends go all out. That's when Avantika's best friend Meera (Surbhi Jyoti) and Sid's best friend Haider (Barun Sobti) come face to face for the first time. In the very beginning, Haider even goes on to throw the poor girl into the pool, and yet, manages to allure her time and again.

Gradually, we see them interacting more than casuallyand post some bantering and nok-jhok moments, the duo gets to know each other. However, they are totally oblivious to the pain that resides in both their hearts.

But, Haider's charm is unmissable and irresistible! (We are sure you'd agree) And, the case is no different for Meera who begins to develop feelings for him, and, wonders, if she is ready to have 'that moment' with him. The shy girl that Meera is, she comes up with her own name for sexand calls it sleepX, which, Haider finds to be cute.

And then, just like in the movies, Meera wakes up in Haider's clothes the next day, but, nothing actually happens that night.

Thus comes the 'cocktail night,' when both of them promise to not drink to finally have 'that' (Since Haider wouldn't take advantage of a drunk girl). While they are fighting their pain, they both seem to find solace and peace in each other's arms. However, this time, Meera turns out to be the playgirl, (or at least pretends to be) while Haider is left in a dilemma. But, all of us know that they love each other, don't we?

The not-so-loving side of a relationship is then portrayed. Haider, because of his own guilt, pushes Meera away, but still, tries to fight his inner demons. Meera decides to leave, and walk out of his life, but that's when Haider professes his love to the lady.

While they finally are in happy space, things don't work for the best. The duo decides to get engaged, fly to London and meet Haider's motherto finalize things. But, destiny seems to have different plans for them as tearing off the tickets, Haider disappears from the engagementceremony, leaving behind a room full of mess.

Months pass by, and there's no progress in their love story. Along with Meera, the viewers too, are left wondering as to will they ever meet again? Is this really the end of HaiRa or does destiny have something better in store for them!

Rating: ***1/2 (3.5/5)

The GOOD:

The grandeur of the setsand the entire location is just magnificent. Though the major part of the web series is shot at the Bungalow, what we see on the screen is alluring.

Yet another of the great things about the series were the costumes. One could definitely get some major 'fashionspiration'from them.

Moving on to the story, the show has some amazing dialogues which go right through your heart (including the opening lines of Barun Sobti aka Haider). Throughout the series, you will experience all sorts of emotions - ranging from pain to happiness to love and hate. Since there are too many feelings captured all together, the music definitely adds up to the entire look and feel. There are moments when you will have tears with a smile on your face, while there are instances where you will have your blood boiling. All in all, you'll be on a rollercoaster ride on the emotional front.

The NOT-SO-GOOD:

One thing that did not go down very well with us is the predictability. As good as the story and the acting is, much of the series is about what we know might be happening (or at least, there's a 90% chance that it'll happen). The web series gave us a very Bollywood feel at certain scenes.

The PERFORMANCES:

Barun Sobti rocks it as Haider. He is the star of the web series in its real sense. His transition from the casanova that he is in the show to the love-struck boy that he becomes is commendable. He has his emotions right and is bound to make you fall in love with Haider.

Surbhi Jyoti aka Meera is what she does the best. As she hides her pain and becomes the girl who spreads happiness, at the same time, she also is the girl who needs someone to hold her up. Though she's overdone it initially, a few episodes into the series, her character gradually settles down.

The rest of the cast is equally important and everyone's actually done it well. Though the story revolves around Haider and Meera, both their set of friends play an equally important role in carrying the entire story forward.

Rating: **** (4/5)

The VERDICT:

Tanhaiyan is a complete package in its own. While it has its own highs and lows, it sure will have you pick your phone up and say 'I Love You' to your special someone.

If you're a Barun Sobti fan, you'll be in love with him all over again. Also, if you're someone who's always high on emotions and feelings, you should binge watch it right away!
