Return of the Legendary Duos

BollyCurry makes a wish list of those legendary couples that the audiences aspire to see lighting the silver screen once again.

Bollywood has always been the matchstick that has ignited the flames of romance in the candles of hearts. Be it opening the gates of imagination or unlocking the doors of passion, Bollywood has narrated stories and the actors and actresses have turned them into dazzling cinematic sagas. There have been onscreen pairs that are remembered for breathing life in the story, for lighting the silver screen with their sizzling chemistry, for making the moments electric, for touching hearts and leaving behind echoes of their fingers in a way that we are left searching for some sort of conjure trick to bring them back with another story, another romance, another ending. Today BollyCurry makes a wish list of those legendary couples that the audiences aspire to see lighting the silver screen once again.

Be it the feeling of the first blush of love, or the silent communication between the eyes and the heart, the hit duo of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, with their sizzling chemistry made reality shift on its axis. The couple starred together in the 1993 thriller Baazigar, followed by the longest running movie in Bollywood, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995). Since then, they have featured in many hit movies like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) and My Name Is Khan (2010) among others. The fire they lit on the big screen since their first movie is ignited fiercely even after two decades and will continue to lighten up the years to come.

One of the most legendary and controversial couples of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha, still kindle the embers of hope of seeing them romance on the silver screen. Their professional paths crossed for the first time in Namak Haram in 1973, but it was Do Anjaane (1976) during which they garnered fame as an onscreen and off-screen couple. They shared screen space in more than ten movies and were last seen in the movie Silsila in 1981. Their paths might have sprung apart since then, but their portrayal of the heady love escapade and the pathos of loved one lost was so poignant that it is impossible to forget their glamorous journey together.

Touching a million hearts with the musical adoption of Romeo and Juliet, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988), Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla made sure that they would live in the memory chest forever. Their pairing ruled Bollywood for a long time and they went ahead to star in numerous films like Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993) and Ishq (1997). Even after a decade, the memory of this evergreen couple surfaces time and again, and creates a nostalgic moment when the fans look back and remember.

Another pair that tops the wish list is that of Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit. The 'Dabangg' Khan and the 'Dhak Dhak' girl sent hearts racing for the first time in the 1990s with Saajan (1991) followed by movies like Dil Tera Ashiq (1993), Hum Aapke Hain Kaun (1994) and Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam (2002). This amazing pair is known for executing brilliant performances that have captured hearts and has made us travel through the realms of fantasy.

The onscreen Jodi of the 'Khiladi' of Bollywood, Akshay Kumar and the 'Chikni Chameli' Katrina Kaif remains loved by all. Kumar and Kaif appeared together for the first time in 2006 in the movie Humko Deewana Kar Gaye, and left a mark making sure it would never fade. Thereafter they have worked together in numerous movies like Namastey London (2007), Singh is Kinng (2008), De Dana Dan  (2009), Blue (2009) etc. and yet left the audience craving for more.

These couples of tinsel town have cast magic spells and charmed hearts making the world take an elevator to the lands of fantasy to believe in fairy tales, to step on the blurry lines between real and reel and to see them recreating the same magic again. Every soulful performance of such couples leaves a melody that lingers around like the warmth of fire in crystalline cold and lives on through the slivers of time.

Which of these couples light up your screen and remain on the top of your wish list? Do let us know in the comment box below.
