Ramayana: Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi’s magnum opus gets CBFC nod for title announcement

Indian cinema’s most ambitious project, Ramayana, is finally taking a big step forward. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra, the magnum opus has received its first official certification. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has approved the title announcement video of the film, giving it a clean ‘U’ certificate.

The announcement video, titled TITLE ANNOUNCEMENT - RAMAYANA 3D, has a runtime of 2 minutes and 36 seconds. It was certified by the Mumbai Regional Office on 5th May 2025. Namit Malhotra, also the Founder and Global CEO of Prime Focus Studios, is listed as both the applicant and producer.

Although the video hasn’t been made public yet, this certification indicates that the makers are all set to kick-start the promotions. The buzz around Ramayana has already created waves, and this latest update has only added to the excitement among fans.

The film, inspired by the great Indian epic, will be released in two parts. As per plans, Part 1 will release during Diwali 2026, and Part 2 is slated for a Diwali 2027 release. The makers are aiming to present a visually breathtaking and culturally respectful version of the legendary tale.

Back in November 2024, Namit Malhotra had shared a heartfelt message when the project was officially announced. He wrote on Instagram, “More than a decade ago, I embarked on a noble quest to bring this epic that has ruled billions of hearts for over 5000 years to the big screen. And today, I am thrilled to see it taking shape beautifully…”

He added that the entire team is dedicated to presenting Ramayana in the most “authentic, sacred, and visually stunning” way possible. “Join us as we fulfill our dream of bringing our greatest epic to life with pride and reverence,” he concluded, signing off on behalf of the whole team.

Though the production house has not made the cast official, multiple reports and on-set leaks suggest that Ranbir Kapoor will play Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi will appear as Sita, and KGF star Yash will portray Ravana. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, Yash had confirmed his role and said, “There’s vast scope to present it in a very different way.” He also revealed that he is co-producing the film and aims to take it to the global stage.

With the title video now certified, fans can expect their first glimpse of this epic saga very soon.
