'Ramayana' begins: Yash kicks off shoot with 'Mad Max' stunt guru, Guy Norris

Production is officially underway for Ramayana, with Yash stepping into the role of Ravana. The actor, who also serves as co-producer, has joined the shoot for the first installment of the trilogy. Set against an expansive mythological backdrop, the film aims to build a cinematic universe rooted in Indian heritage while embracing global production standards.

International action director Guy Norris is currently stationed in India to develop intricate fight sequences. Having previously worked on major Hollywood blockbusters, his presence signals a deliberate shift in the execution of large-scale combat on screen. The action design will reportedly hinge on a grounded yet visceral approach, moving away from stylized fantasy and leaning toward physical realism.

Yash, known for his immersive preparation methods, is heavily invested in the process. Reports from the set suggest that he has been part of early-stage discussions and continues to work closely with the creative unit to ensure consistency in tone and character. His schedule spans over two months of shooting, indicating a central role in the film’s narrative structure.

Photographs emerging from the production site depict Yash in a dramatically altered physique. Industry observers are noting this as a calculated transformation that aligns with a darker, more complex interpretation of Ravana, suggesting a shift from traditional depictions of mythological antagonists.

The project is helmed by Nitesh Tiwari and backed by Prime Focus Studios in collaboration with Yash’s own banner, Monster Mind Creations. While Diwali 2026 has been locked for the first film’s release, the second chapter will follow a year later.
