We all know the story of Karna, the warrior. Known as the illegitimate son of Kunti and the brother of the Pandavas, Karna fought against his brothers in the Kurukshetra war alongside the Kauravas.

While we have seen quite a few mythological shows on television in recent times, there was Suryaputra Karn starring Gautam Rode, that narrated the epic Mahabharat from Karna's point of view.

And now, Star Plus is back with KarnSangini, the less explored and narrated love story of Karna. Starring Tejasswi Prakash as Princess Urvi, Kinshuk Vaidya as Arjun and Ashim Gulati as Karna, the makers released its first promo and here's a small analysis.

What is the promo about?

The promo shows the charming archer Arjun (Kinshuk Vaidya) shoot an arrow through 3 rotating wheels in a Swayamvar of sorts for the hand of Princess Urvi. However, she rejects Arjun as she is in love with Karna.

In fact, according to folklore, it is said that Princess Urvi had decided that if she were to ever marry, it would be to Karna and nobody else. However, Urvi is betrothed to Arjun already.

What we liked:

The first looks of all the three actors Kinshuk, Tejasswi and Ashim are terrific and so are the glimpses of their performances that we've gotten so far.

The standard of the special effects that we've witnessed so far in the promo seem satisfying. A final verdict can be given only after watching the show.

What we did not like:

With most people not knowing that much of Karna's back story, a little more bit of information could have been revealed, just to grab more eyeballs.

Verdict:

With KarnSangini, Shashi Sumeet Productions will be seen venturing into the mythological arena. And we must say that their first attempt looks very convincing. We also await more trailers from the makers.

Well Well our fascination with Radheya hasn't stopped it seems! Even though I adored Aham Sharma as Karna I hope to see a much stronger Karna here vs a weeping one. Not a fan of this female character at all but let's see! I look forward to tolerating it on some levels.

@NK1865 If you are talking about Kavita Kane then let me tell you I have read ALL her books and she came across as the weakest writer from the myth-fic bandwagon. Her only likeable book till date remains Menaka's Choice again where she has happily twisted and distorted facts to make her protagonist shine somehow. And if we are to talk about the canon Mahabharat then Karna isn't explored much. He has one chapter dedicated to him; just one. It is the modern day writers who have written sagas about him being mistreated and this and that when the reality is he had a far better childhood and adulthood than both Kauravas and the Pandavas. It was only with the beginning of the war that he was dissed at because of his parentage. And no we are not talking about Karna here.

If the show is based in the book then lord help us all because Miss Kane here had deliberately and happily demeaned other women to make Uruvi shine. She even created a non-existent love saga between Karna and Draupadi which is ridiculous given they only have two interaction in the entire Mahabharat. Granted this a new rendition but it doesn't take away from the fact that it still is based on Mahabharat. About calling Uruvi bitchiest, then yes she was one. She always felt wronged by Draupadi; again this is when they hardly have any interaction in the said epic. Add to it she was extremely jealous of Vrushali's position in Karma's household and Supriya's closeness with Bhanumati. Her bitchness if you will stems from her insecurity. He also was wary of Karna's oldest son Vrishasena and Vrishketu. In most ballad her hatered or jealousy stems from the fact that she herself was barran when both Vrushali and Supriya had children. If you are quoting your argument on the book Karna's Wife then I'd suggest you read canon version and regional rendition of Mahabharat. Uruvi is just another minor character; it really is Vrushali who's character strength is phenomenal.editededitDate2018-09-16 0...

@Meself, did you read the book "Karna's wife" by Kavita Kane? First of all, Supriya didn't even exist in the book. And much of Karna's life isn't explored in the original Mahabharat so it's quite ambiguous if Supriya is the 2nd wife. In some South Indian versions, Ponnuruvi is acknowledged as the 2nd wife. Different regions have different adaptations of Karna's life so it can't be said for sure who was Karna's 2nd wife. Though I agree that Karna's wife is a fictional story based on Ponnuruvi. And Uruvi was the bitchiest character? Who did she bitch about and to whom? And when was it ever mentioned she hated Vrushali and Draupadi? She was jealous at times, but never did her jealousy go overboard and neither did she harm them. She had jealous moments like any other human being so how does that make her bad? Towards the end of the book, it was evident that Vrushali and Uruvi had a mutual respect and understanding for each other and both counselled Karna against his association with Duryodhana and the war in union. Moreover, even though she was jealous of Draupadi at times, she recognised what happened to Draupadi was wrong and fell at the feet of the Pandavas and Draupadi asking for apology and even left Karna over this. So how was she the bitchiest character? And Uruvi didn't hold her own during Karna's fall? She was with him throughout his entire fall and was even entrusted with looking after Vrushali. She was strong for years and focused on healing people after the war.

Uruvi is probably the most bitchiest character that exists in Mahabharat. She hated Karma's other wives Vrushali and Supriya and could never digest the fact that her step-sister Draupadi was the most daughter after woman in the entire Aryavarta. Also it wasn't that she rejected Arjun for Karna. Arjun never really was interested in having Uruvi as her wife. It would be thousand times better if the makers had taken Supriya or Vrushali as central characters instead of Uruvi; as these were the women who held their own even when Karna had his fall. Uruvi on the other hand was a plain bimbo. I don't really see anything worthy in her that needs to be adapted in a show.
