Priyanka Chopra’s Kaminey tribute evokes personal response from director Vishal Bhardwaj

Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who has carved a successful career in both Bollywood and Hollywood, recently took a moment to reflect on her journey in Hindi cinema. While her international projects like Quantico and Citadel continue to gain global recognition, her absence from Bollywood films is felt keenly by Indian audiences.

Marking the 16th anniversary of the 2009 cult classic Kaminey, Priyanka shared rare snippets from the film on Instagram, featuring her as Sweety Bhope alongside Shahid Kapoor’s Guddu. She recalled being offered the role while shooting Dostana in Miami, saying, “I remember him telling me the story and I said, ‘Well, she has approximately 8 scenes.’ And he said, ‘With us working on it, it will end up being so much more. Trust me.’ And I did. He promised he would make something incredible for me after this in appreciation for doing the part. But honestly, I was just greedy to work with him. A few years later, we did 7 Khoon Maaf.”

The film’s director, Vishal Bhardwaj, reshared Priyanka’s post with a heartfelt note, reflecting on their collaboration. He wrote, “Ask me how much I miss those days. You have been one of the finest collaborations of my career. Remember one day, when you got angry, I handwrote a poem on a napkin and sent it to manaoo you. ‘Doosri jangaleedam ko khatam huye bhi beetein saal. Ab bhi kuch Japani afsar chhupien mile hain duty par. Tum se kab ab milna hoga… Kya ab bhi naraaz ho tum?’”

Priyanka responded with warmth, “Hahaha aapse kaun naraaz reh sakta hai? Aaiye milne.” Their playful exchange quickly went viral, with fans praising their bond and hoping for more collaborations.

Under her post, many fans expressed how much they miss seeing Priyanka in Hindi films. One comment read, “Watching these snippets just makes us realise what Bollywood is missing out on. The way it’s been feeding us mediocrity left, right and centre these days. Laut aao PC! 😢” Another added, “Probably one of the finest actress and till today I see so many movies and feel Priyanka would have nailed it in that particular role.”
