Priyanka Chopra feared Nick Jonas wouldn't marry her after meeting her mother at 1 Am

The actress recounted the awkward encounter, painting a vivid picture of the moment Nick was introduced to the family.

Priyanka Chopra shared details of her initial meeting with Nick Jonas, revealing their decision to "just hang out" at her house prior to the Met Gala. Reflecting on the early stages of their relationship, Priyanka recalled the meeting during the event's fittings. "[At] the end of the night, we went back to my place," she said, offering a glimpse into their casual yet significant first encounter.

Priyanka Chopra had warned Nick Jonas, "My mom’s home. She might be awake." But, she'd neglected to mention she was bringing a guest home at 1 AM. Upon entering her home, Nick and Priyanka found Madhu Chopra, Priyanka's mother, "laid out on the couch watching [Law & Order] SVU," setting the stage for a memorable introduction.

Priyanka's mother was "so mad" at the lack of heads-up. Priyanka recounted, "She ran to her bedroom [and] was like, ‘You should have told me.’" Despite her initial surprise, Madhu Chopra, "putting on her lipstick", declared she was "not coming back out," adding a humorous twist to the encounter.

Though Nick Jonas seemed unfazed by the meeting, considering it not a date, Priyanka felt differently. "We met to kind of see what it was," Priyanka explained, then added, "Then he gave me a hug at the end of the night, and I thought I’d really royally screwed it up. … [He] patted me on the back twice," revealing her initial insecurities about the encounter.

Following a brief engagement, Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas married in December 2018. In January 2022, they welcomed their daughter, Malti Marie Chopra Jonas, through surrogacy.
