Prince Harry, Meghan Markle discuss Netflix project on Princess Diana amid new Archewell contract

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could soon take on one of the most personal projects of their careers. Reports suggest the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are in discussions to produce a documentary on Princess Diana for Netflix, ahead of the 30th anniversary of her death in Paris in 1997.

According to The Sun, the idea of Harry leading a programme that reflects on his mother’s life and legacy has been raised during the couple’s recent contract renewal talks with the streaming platform. Sources indicate that Netflix, which extended its deal with their Archewell Productions company earlier this month, would prioritise such a project.

The discussions come at a time when the Sussexes are strengthening their partnership with Netflix. Meghan’s lifestyle series With Love, Meghan is set to return on August 26 with its second season, followed by a holiday special in December. The couple is also behind Masaka Kids, A Rhythm Within, a short documentary focusing on Ugandan orphans.

For Harry, a Diana-focused documentary would carry deep personal resonance. He was 12 years old when the Princess of Wales died in a car crash in Paris, an event he has often described as devastating and lonely. In a letter written recently to Scotty’s Little Soldiers, a charity supporting bereaved military children, the Duke reflected on the weight of such grief.

“It can be overwhelming and isolating. Yet, in the midst of that heartache, we find strength in the love and memories left behind,” he wrote, adding that shared support systems can help young people find resilience.

He urged those grieving to carry forward the values of their loved ones “courage, compassion, and a sense of purpose” and to remember that love endures even through loss. “Your resilience is a testament to the legacy of your loved ones,” Harry added.

The potential project comes as global audiences continue to engage with Diana’s story nearly three decades after her death. If finalised, the Netflix film would not only revisit the life of a figure who shaped modern royal history but also mark Harry’s most direct contribution to preserving his mother’s legacy on screen.
