New Delhi, Oct 2 (IANS) It was a gathering of around 1,000 women, all elegantly dressed, and relishing every moment of the pampering. Manicure, hair styling, make-up, henna designs on hands - all for free at a 'record-breaking' kitty party.
The bi-annual Grihlakshmi Kitty Party, held last weekend, proved to be a lavish affair with 1,000-odd women gathered to 'have fun' at a banquet hall named Lutyens here.
It is heading for the Limca Book of Records for being the largest kitty party, said Vandana Verma, executive editor of Grihlaksmhi, a monthly Hindi magazine for women.
The magazine deals with issues like lifestyle, beauty, health, family, relationships, Bollywood, television and lots more.
There were many stalls offering free services on beauty, health and lifestyle at the party.
'This is a place which offers a day full of entertainment to our readers. Grihlakshmi means homemaker and, according to us, every homemaker has a right to enjoy. We have thus invited our subscribers, readers and also some prominent ladies' clubs of the city to join in the fun,' Verma told IANS.
On the money invested to organise the record-breaking event, Verma declined to disclose the figure but said it was definitely 'a big amount'.
Homemakers, working women and college-goers came together under one roof to socialise, meet celebrities and pamper themselves.
They flocked in hordes to get their hair made up for free by leading stylist Habibs, makeup by high-end beauty parlour Aashmeen's and manicure by a VLCC kiosk. The services would have otherwise cost them no less than Rs.500, Rs.1,500 and Rs.300 respectively.
There were henna artists to decorate their hands, a bangle stall giving away sets of bangles for free, a tarot card reader and also a palmist and numerologist to predict their futures.
TV actress Zalak Thakkar, who plays the female protagonist in NDTV Imagine's new show 'Chand Ke Paar Chalo', was present alongwith other TV stars including Supriya Pilgaonkar, Mona Vasu and Ragini Khanna from the same channel.
'I had come here last year and I am very excited to be here this time too. I think it is a wonderful event and a great idea to have so many women gathered at one spot and indulge in what they like the most,' Zalak said.
Apart from lucky dips, contests and games, the women also splurged money on expensive showpieces, saris, suits, home linen and other knick-knacks on sale. There was also a fashion show sponsored by Titan Raga to showcase their new collection.
