Guddu Dhanoa one of the prominent filmmakers of the90s is back with Jayantilal Gada’s Romeo S3. The movie stars Thakur Anoop Singh with Palak Tiwari. In an exclusive conversation with India Forums, he told us, “Jayantilal Gada had promised Thakur Anoop Singh that he would launch him as a hero in Bollywood. Romeo S3 is an action-packed masala movie with a social message.”While Thakur Anoop Singh has proved himself as a villain in many South films, this is his debut as a hero. Palak Tiwari has been a part of films like Bhootnii and Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan.

Talking about Palak Tiwari, Guddu Dhanoa said, “Palak Tiwari definitely has it in her to make it a mass Bollywood heroine. She is quite confident and spontaneous in front of the camera. I had seen her Instagram pictures and felt she would suit the character of the girl. I was amazed when I saw her nail her first scene in a single shot. I must say that Shweta Tiwari has guided her well in terms of how to face the camera. Shweta herself is a good nuanced actress, so she has the genes.”

Guddu Dhanoa who directed films like Kismat, Elaan, Ziddi, Salaakhen, in the 90s worked with Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Kumar, Sunny Deol when they were quite new in their careers. What is the difference between newcomers then and now? He opines, “See, I worked with Akshay and Saif in the early stages of their career. They had the confidence and charm for the big screen. That is what works. Today, newcomers have PR, well-curated 360 degree campaigns but what works is genuine audience appeal, talent and charm. Also, the luck factor matters in a big way.”

We have seen star kids like Ibrahim Ali Khan, Khushi Kapoor, Agastya Nanda launched of late but no one has managed an impact like Hrithik Roshan or a Sunny Deol from their first ever movie. “See, Dharmendra Sir took a lot of efforts for Betaab, the debut movie of Sunny Deol. The music is remembered till date. Here, these star kids are getting movies with big budgets but there is no focus on the story or music. You have to be careful as a filmmaker/producer to highlight their strengths in their first film. I felt Ibrahim Ali Khan’s Nadaaniyan was a missed opportunity. He had the hype around him. With a better story, he would have created a better first impression. The script let him down. Nowadays, no one concentrates on the music, which is a core component of Bollywood movies. It is being ignored and I don’t know why,” he stresses.

Guddu Dhanoa also stressed on the right budget for a film. “I have tried to give my best for Anoop and Palak’s movie even though itis made on a fixed budget. It is a mass entertainer aimed at all sections ofsociety,” he said.
