No more Saas-Bahu roles for women on TV!

While it has always been seen these TV actresses portray the usual and typecast Bahu's role in each and every show but as time passes by these women have grown up. Not only seen as a responsible daughter in laws but they are very much fulfilling their duties outside their home as well. Some fulfill the duty of being a Teacher, Police officer, Doctor, Businesswoman and Politician and some by being a daughter in law or mother in law raise their voice against social issue like seen in Doli Armaanon Ki where Neha Marda (Urmi) who fights against eve teasing.

This vital medium has been gearing up nowadays to explore the various avenues for women and thus they are encouraging more women to excel in their respective files by showcasing few of them in their shows.

While we have seen earlier Tulsi (Smriti Zubin Irani), Parvati (Saakshi Tanwar) and Prerna (Shweta Tiwari) being dutiful wives but were always indulged in solving their family matters however, now the times have changed wherein these lead actresses are portraying out of the box characters and are inspiring other women too.

Here are a few characters from the TV shows that have not only won many hearts of the audience but also given an inspirational message through their delivery of roles.

The job of a teacher is to educate children and make them acquire knowledge through their teaching. One such teacher who is see on-screen but gives away a very significant message to the audience is Devoleena Bhattacharjee who plays Gopi in Star Plus' Saath Nibhana Saathiya. The show which garnered immense popularity still maintains its position in the TRP charts. The mother- in-law and daughter-in-law of Gopi and Kokila especially seemed to have captivated the attention of the audience. Since there is a leap in the show and the characters are shown to be older than their real age, here is Gopi's character of a Teacher which emphases on the issue of educating children. With her innocent looks, understanding and caring nature this character is shown to be very progressive enough. Gopi who is shown as an illiterate in the initial episodes of the show, very well takes up the job of a teacher to educate kids and through her teaching she tries to make them understand the importance of education in our lives.

While the crime takes place, it is acted upon by the cops and then later our judicial system takes care of it for the further proceedings. Well, as we are talking about the judicial system lawyers are the people who help you and save your life. Recently seen portraying a public prosecutor in Sony TV's Adaalat Aashka Goradia sets another example for women who want to pursue their career in the field of Law. With her resilient performance, her lawyer's act has inspired many women across the nation.

The heavy duty police officers who are always on their toes 24/7 to curb crimes happening in our country, the male dominated filed has been over powered by women these days and it has also reflected on Television too. To start off with Kavita Kaushik who essays Chandramukhi Chautala in SAB TV's F.I.R, is shown to be very sturdy handles the victim cleverly and also investigates the matter cunningly with her funny antics. Her typical Harayanvi accent thus engages the audience in her performances who get more engrossed in watching the show.

Aspriring to become an IPS officer Sandhya Rathi (Deepika Singh) who is also a responsible daughter-in-law is struggling these days to excel in the police training which is currently seen in Star Plus' Diya Aur Baati Hum. While she is managing all the hurdles coming across in her way tactfully, this woman very strongly emphasizes on the fact that Where there is a will, there is a way!' Well, Sandhya with her docile and understanding nature looks pretty confident now and will finally achieve her dream of becoming an IPS officer making her in laws proud.

Well this is not all; Aastha Chaudhary who plays Niyati in Sahara One's Rishton Ke Bhawar Mein Uljhi - Niyati is also shown to be an IPS officer. While she is seen safeguarding our county by fulfilling her duties to convict the criminals and put them behind bars, she diligently manages her house as well by looking after all the necessities of her family members.

Amongst the older one's Maninee De Mishra who currently trains Sandhya in Diya Aur Baatj Hum is very much poised when it comes to her look and character. Seen in a bob cut, Maninee is very much disciplined and strict IPS officer who encourages the cadets during the rigorous training sessions.

The latest one to join the bandwagon of the Police officers list is Gauri Tonk though seen in Life OK's Ek Boond Ishq but had recently portrayed a role of a cop in Sony TV's Crime Patrol.

We have seen Doctors playing the side roles in many TV shows. But one such show where the lead actress is an acclaimed Dentist is Dr. Ishita Raman Bhalla (Divyanaka Tripathy) seen in Star Plus' Ye Hai Mohabbatein. The beautiful actress who is seen as a doting mother of a little one Ruhi in the show manages her household work as well as her Clinic. Her kindness towards her patients and her caring behavior for her daughter sets a very right example for the other women who also try to juggle between their profession and household work. Similary Sargun Mehta who is seen as Ganga in Colors' Show Balika Vadhu aids the patients and also gives them advice being a nurse. As after the Doctor it is always the Nurse who is looked up to whenever there is an emergency. Being a mother to two kids though she spends maximum time in the hospital, she showers her love upon the kids and gives them the much needed time.

After shows like Samvidhaan, Ji Mantriji, Sarkaarr having a political background enthralled the audiences; once again another show Desh Ki Beti Nandini which portrays a story a simple girls who eventually becomes a politician to serve the nation and fight for people's right. Nandini who is a simple and outspoken girl achieves the power to become a politician in the Raghuvanshi family who already has a political background as their ancestors belong from that background. With her traditional look in the show Nandini (Keerti Nagpure) fits the bill and thus takes away the credit for her strong and gutsy performance.

Lastly the actress who has made a comeback after several years is seen playing a businesswoman in Sony TV's Kehta Hai Dil... Jee Le Zara. Yes it is Saanchi (Sangeeta Ghosh) who looks after the strawberry farm and also takes care of her family. Being born and brought up in a social family, Sanchi likes to be independent without giving burden to anyone else. Whatever problems creep in her Business, she handles them very tactfully and ensures that her family is not affected with the issues overall.
