Naman Shaw opens on how he prepared for Mangal Lakshmi with preparatory sessions and workshops

Naman Shaw, who returned to television after seven years with Colors Mangal Lakshmi, discusses his character and the audience's response. 

1. How does it feel to have the show topping the charts, and do you think playing a grey character has contributed to its success?

Our show swiftly ascended to the top of the charts within the first month, and the entire team is overjoyed. The crew's motivation is fueled by our success, a testament to the fact that audiences truly appreciate our work. We proudly lead the 9 PM slot across all channels. The grey character I portray, Adit, undoubtedly amplifies the drama and keeps the audience captivated. His onscreen presence always hints at something significant about to unfold, a factor that keeps viewers engrossed.

2. Did you have any reservations about taking on this role?

I was more than ready to take on this role with no reservations whatsoever. Having previously been typecast in 'good boy' roles, I eagerly anticipated a character who would challenge and redefine audience perceptions of me.

3. With the demanding schedule of a daily show, do you find time for yourself?

Shooting a daily show is demanding, especially with a seven-day-a-week schedule. Fortunately, our show features two families with essential roles for each character, helping to distribute the workload. This arrangement allows for some personal time. As this is my comeback, I'm focused on my work, and although it's hectic, I'm enjoying it.

4. Did you prepare differently for this role since it differs from your real self?

Before the show began, we invested significant time and effort in preparatory sessions. These included workshops with the director, the creative team, and my co-star Deepika. These sessions were instrumental in helping us understand and embody the nuances of our characters, ensuring a compelling performance.

5. How has your wife, Nehaa, responded to your role in the show?

Nehaa has never seen me play such a role in real life. She enjoys it and continues to be my most honest critic.
