Naman Shaw, currently portraying Adit in "Mangal Lakshmi," returns to the screen after a substantial absence, having been part of hit shows such as "Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi" (2000-08), "Kasauti..." (2001-08), "Kasamh Se" (2006-09), and more. In an interview with India Forums, Naman Shaw shares insights into his character and the reasons behind his seven-year hiatus.
1. What aspect of your character do you find most appealing?
I haven't played the grey character. I love this character because I am getting to test myself as an actor. I love this character's layers: He is an obedient son, an unhappy husband, a loving father, and a romantic guy with his girlfriend.
2. Who do you share the best chemistry with on set?
Deepika and I share an excellent rapport because we have numerous scenes together. We connect as parents and often discuss our children. Additionally, I seek advice from her on social media.
3. 7-year hiatus. Have things changed on TV since back then?
Overall, the landscape hasn't transformed significantly. However, there have been subtle shifts in our approach to filming. There's a reduction in melodrama, focusing on more authentic portrayals. The era of shaky cameras and exaggerated treatments is fading, thanks to the influence of web platforms emphasising genuine connections with the audience.
4. What do you miss from earlier times in the industry that seems lacking today?
When I began my career, there was a remarkable level of recognition. With fewer channels and shows, TV actors enjoyed higher recall value. However, the current environment is saturated with numerous channels and social media platforms, diluting the exclusivity once associated with being a television star. Today, everyone seems to have a chance at stardom, leading to a decline in the profession's uniqueness.
