Munjya Box Office: Trade expert gives an insight into surprise success

Maddock Films has done it again with Munjya. The movie is all set to cross the Rs 70 crore mark at the box office. Without any big names, and a CGI character as the main lead, they struck gold at the box office. Now, all eyes are on the Rs 100 crore mark. Maddock Films seems to have the best track record in making moolah from medium budget films.

Trade expert Atul Mohan, told India Forums in an exclusive chat that there was much to learn from the success of Munjya if Bollywood makers paid attention. He said, “The content needs to be appealing. Also, the title worked as people were curious about what is Munjya. People under estimate the need for a good title that catches people’s attention. Also, the low profile marketing worked big time.”

People strongly believe that critics are fake/paid except one or two whom they trust. This whole idea of printing banners with stars a day after release is useless. The situation is so bad that even genuine critics do not get trust of the public

- Atul Mohan on fake critics syndrome

He said that big and small producers now need to realise that audience feedback is the only marketing that matters. Atul Mohan said, “People strongly believe that critics are fake/paid except one or two whom they trust. This whole idea of printing banners with stars a day after release is useless. The situation is so bad that even genuine critics do not get trust of the public. So, let us focus on content.” He said people head to the halls only after hearing good things from own friends’ circle.

Munjya is made on a budget of Rs 14 crores. “It is a reasonable sum to invest and recover for a movie without any star power. They only spent on what was essential the CGI of the film. Right pricing is the need of the hour,” he signs off.
