Director: Ram Gopal Verma

Banner: One More Thought Entertainment Pvt. Ltd.
Genre: Horror
Cast: Baby Ahsaas Channa, Sudeep, Amruta Khanvilkar, Zakir Hussain, K.K. Raina and Lilette Dubey

Phoonk is a typical Ram Gopal Verma film, well crafted film without any big stars (which is actually not needed even). Tremendous potential that the director holds inside him is easily reflected in this flick of his. The subject of the much hyped film Phoonk is basically related to superstitions and was considered to be the scariest movie by the director till date by the crew members. But it is not dead scary. The movie will somehow connect with your inner conscience that slightly believes in some of the higher powers.
It is a story of a construction engineer Rajeev (Sudeep), till a non-believer in God or Devil, who lives happily with his wife (Amruta Khanvilkar) and two children, Raksha (Ahsaas Chana) and Rohan (Shrey). The day an evil enters his home and threatens to destroy his family shakes up the very foundations of Rajeev’s convictions and beliefs in dark forces. The most unexpected and surprising thing is in the movie is the ending which some might not feel it is justified but still it was plausible.
The performances are uniformly good. Sudeep and Amruta Khanvilkar are efficient. Baby Ahsaas Channa makes a strong impression. Ashwini Kalsekar is top notch and an excellent support from Zakir Hussain, Ganesh Yadav, K.K. Raina and Lilette Dubey.
It’s better if you don’t go by the contest the film makers are offering. The movie may be surely watched alone as it is not as scary as it should be. So it can be said that winning Rs. 5 lacks from Ram Gopal Verma is not that tough.
All in all, ‘Phoonk’ is fantastic horror film but it is dark film as well which let you chill and thrill but doesn’t blow you away. So just sit and enjoy the magic which over powers you.
