Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed grief over the demise of veteran actor Saeed Jaffrey, saying that the multifaceted actor "will always be remembered" for his versatility.
"Saeed Jaffrey was a multifaceted actor whose flair and versatility will always be remembered. Deepest condolences on his passing away: PM," read the post by the official PMO Twitter handle.
The news of the death of the Indian-born British actor surfaced on Facebook on November 15. He was 86.
It is being reported that he passed away due to some age-related illness.
Known for roles in movies like "Gandhi" (1982), "Shatranj Ke Khilari" (1977), "Henna" (1991), "Masoom" (1983) and "Ram Teri Ganga Maili" (1985), Saeed was married to co-actress and travel writer Mehrunima (Madhur Jaffrey). They parted ways in 1965.
Together they have three daughters Meera, Zia and Sakina - who is also an actress.
Among many honours and awards, Saeed was conferred with the Order of the British Empire for his contributions to drama.
