Veteran Bollywood actor and politician Mithun Chakraborty is set to be honored with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his extraordinary contributions to Indian cinema. The award will be presented during the 70th National Film Awards ceremony, scheduled for October 8, 2024. This recognition marks another milestone in the 74-year-old actor’s illustrious career, solidifying his status as a legend in Indian cinema.
The announcement was made by Information & Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who shared the news on social media. He posted on X, “Mithun Da’s remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations! Honoured to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to award legendary actor, Sh. Mithun Chakraborty Ji for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema.”
Mithun Chakraborty, often referred to as Mithun Da, has been an iconic figure in Bollywood for decades. His journey began with the 1976 film Mrigayaa, directed by Mrinal Sen, for which he won his first National Film Award for Best Actor. Since then, Mithun has consistently demonstrated his versatility and dedication to the craft, winning two more National Film Awards for his roles in Tahader Katha (1992) and Swami Vivekananda (1998).
