Amidst a barrage of new shows, these shows excelled..

Hello folks! And we are back and rolling with the mid-year review, that we began back in June 2017, where we would review how the first half of the year turned out to be.
Every year is about beginning something NEW in life, and what better then to talk about the new shows that arrived and certainly conquered. Some turned out to be successful for a particular reason, while others for being the complete package.
So, here we go-
The absolutely pleasant surprise of the year, we must say. There are some shows which are launched with a lot of hullabaloo and may or may not be successful later. That wasn't the case with Kullfi Kumarr Bajewala, as apart from the fact that it was Mohit Malik's comeback show and that its a co-production by Gul Khan; the overall hype was low-profile. But, with it's endearing storyline, blistering performances (that includes Akriti Sharma and Anjali Anand), and constant improvement, Kullfi Kumarr Bajewala is one of the best currently on TV, and continues to soar through the charts.
Bold storylines have either done amazingly well on Indian TV or bombed miserably. With Aapke Aa Jaane Se, the former happened. Inspite of the fact that the show is Suhasi Dhami's comeback, it is the fresh and unconventional pairing of Suhasi with Karan Jotwani that became a highlight in itself. The show has been constantly climbing up tbe charts and did an amazing feat of entering Top 10 last week. The young boy-loving-elder woman concept was a risk, but a successful one in this case.
Another absolute underdog, not many saw it doing wonders inspite of the many challenges. A debuting pair of Namit Khanna and Palak Jainn, along with being aired around the time of intense competition of Indian Premier League (IPL), the show was pitted against a lot. But, it overcame the challenges at least online. The show continued Sony TV's trend of how some of it's shows do fantastically online, but not so good on BARC list. Nevertheless, it deserves a spot on this list for sure.
The sudden and unanticipated sensation in the current scenario, Ishq Subhan Allah is a certain story of resounding success. While Eisha Singh was already as popular as any actress can be, debutant Adnan Khan became an overnight heartthrob. Currently, the show is one of the highest rated ones, and the marriage of content and commercialization has been the true highlight of the show.
Jijaji Chatt Par Hai
This may come as a surprise to many, but it certainly deserves a mention in the list. For a channel, which primarily depends on Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah for its GRP, it has produced some good shows over the last year. And beginning in the first week of this year, Jijaji Chatt Par Hai is a surprise success, as we talk about the channel's usual requirements. One of the prime reasons for the show's popularity and good run is leading lady Hiba Nawab's performance. To do comedy is difficult, but to do it effortlessly is almost impossible for many, and Hiba does the latter with full conviction.
This show only makes it to the list for two reasons. One - The kind of cult status it has achieved over the years and the makers deciding for it to make a comeback with the same original cast was a treat in itself. and Two - Talking about the content and quality, the show did not disappoint. Apart from these two reasons, Khichdi has been dismal on the rating charts and will be going off-air on 22nd June. Nevertheless, it were an amazing 2 and a half months for sure.
Everything was going to be huge about Colors' offering, Bepannaah. The comeback of Harshad Chopda, Jennifer Winget riding high on the success of Beyhadh, the duo's first-time yet explosive pairing, a suspense angle and a juggernaut channel like Colors presenting it. Fortunately, almost all these factors have worked in the show's favour, as it is currently one of the most popular shows on tube right now. The ratings may be dwindling otherwise, but the show does seem a winner in many senses.
Special Mentions
It is actually surprising how in terms of mega shows, only Ishq Subhan Allah and Bepannaah are the contenders here. But that is because, some of the big shows are either launching in June itself or will be rolling soon. And three of them mainly are Silsila Badalte Rishton Ka, Naagin 3 and Dil Hi Toh Hai - three big shows with a lot riding on them! let's see how things work out for them as we talk about them at the end of the year.
