The Coronavirus pandemic has resulted in a worldwide lockdown. The number of cases of the novel virus are increasing with each passing day. As of April 8, there are 1, 431,941 cases reported worldwide and 5194 cases in India.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has instructed a lockdown in the country to avoid the spread of the virus. People are asked to stay indoors and all work has come to a standstill. In such a situation, there is also a shortage of essential items like food grains, medicines, and other commodities.
Apart from the essential items, people who are addicted to alcohol are also finding it difficult to sustain as all the shops are closed due to the lockdown. Veteran actress Manorama’s son Bhupathi too could not resist and consumed sleeping pills as an alternative to alcohol, which has landed him up in the hospital. Bhupathi is a singer and actor, and the only son of veteran actor Manorama who died in 2015.
Reportedly, Bhupathi has an alcohol addiction and helpless with the absence of alcohol, he consumed an overdose of sleeping pills that were prescribed to him for health reasons. As per a report in The Hindu, Bhupathi's son found him lying, unresponsive, on his bed on Tuesday evening. He was soon taken to the Apollo Hospitals in Thousand Lights, Chennai and given treatment.
Bhupathi, 64, is currently in the ICU.
