The very young and talented actor Kushal Punjabi who was last seen in Jhalak Dikhhlaa Jaa Season 7 has been quite active on social networking sites for quite some time as he brings up the noble cause of ‘Rice Bucket Challenge’. The challenge is basically giving out a bucket of rice to someone who is needy. We got in touch with the actor to know about what made him take up a step like this and his thoughts regarding this challenge.
Read on!
“I had heard about the Rice Bucket Challenge through twitter message by Raj Nayak (CEO, Colors). In one of his tweet I read ‘Rice Bucket’ and did not read anything else in that particular tweet. I thought to myself that India should have something like Rice Bucket Challenge. Initially I was not that serious but when I thought, I felt there are thousands and lakhs of people in India who have no clue what the ALS problem is in America. On the contrary, I am seeing television stars are putting up the water on them and nominate other. Half of them may don’t even donate money. It is very insensible wasting water and it is quite silly. This challenge is not a game. The reason why 90% of people do not even know why the water is poured on them is to make them feel like what all those people suffering from the disease feel like.â€
Go on...
“I felt we should rather take up a challenge which is more relatable and can cause some kind of difference in our society and to our people. I personally do not go and donate things every day. Now it is seen as not many people are taking this up because there is no fun in the ‘Rice Bucket Challenge’ unlike the Ice Bucket Challenge. It is unfortunate that one does not need to take much effort to find a needy in India,†ends Kushal
He further adds, “I urge people to donate something to people who are needy and they want it. I had nominated many people among which Manish Paul, Karan V Grover, Kainat Arora and my non celebs friends also took up the challenge. Also, in one of my tweets, I have challenged Sony TV, Zee TV, Star Plus and Colors because all four big television networks have several employees working for them. I started off with challenging my own Jhalak Dikhhlaa Jaa Season 7 people and slowly I will challenge everyone to join in for this noble cause. “
TellyBuzz wishes Kushal all the good luck to take this noble cause ahead.

You did a fantastic job Kushal Punjabi . All should donate a bit , like 1% of their monthly salary for the poor people , give clothes & home made fresh foods & fruits to their housemaids etc . Small efforts can bring big changes

As long as you are not pouring rice over your head and giving it to the needy. I can tell through research pouring ICE over your head is not the same as suffering from ALS.. This challenge I think was copied from another one. It originates to the NFFF where you get nominated and complete the challenge and donate to the chosen charity.

This, for once, is definitely better than the ice bucket challenge where only clean water is being wasted. More people should partake in this one (whether they will is another matter since it is not as 'fun' like he said ). Kushal has started a very good cause. Hope it catches on.
