Keeping the television audience gripped is a huge challenge: Amrita Rao

In conversation with Amrita Rao on her debut show Meri Awaaz Hi Pehchaan Hai on &TV...

Amrita Rao at Launch of &TV's 'Meri Awaaz Hi Pehchaan Hai'

Popularly known for her girl next door image, beautiful and talented actress Amrita Rao is set to be seen in completely different character on her television debut Meri Awaaz Hi Pehchaan Hai (produced by Nivedita Basu).

Working on television is indeed going to be a new experience for the actress who is doing a fiction show for the first time. In a conversation with us, Amrita reveals more about the show, the challenges, her hosting experience and lot more…

The show will bring back the charm of old classical Indian music -

This series will promote melody driven music and it's going to have the retro beats, which is just forgotten. Personally I am a huge retro buff because that era had melody, which is washed out from today's music. Perhaps this is the reason why a song becomes famous at first and after a year you get bored of listening to it and nobody even remembers it but every time you hear the old Retro music, you fall in love with it even more. That's why it's truly called as the magic of golden era.

It's a challenge to hold the television audience than cinema -

In cinema, you have a captive audience but to grab the attention of the housewives amid so many distractions, like phone calls or doorbells, is difficult. Keeping the audience gripped to you even for 5 minutes is a huge challenge in the age of phones and electronics. It's going to be difficult.

New experience hosting a TV show -

Last year, I was the muse for the Jaipur Jewelry Show for the NDTV Good Times. That was a new experience for me. I was asking questions rather than answering questions in an interview to some of the finest jewelers from Jaipur, India. Understanding the craft and the heritage of Jaipur Jewelry and how they still strive to keep the workmanship alive was a whole new experience for me. I really learnt a lot in that process.

The little girls have delivered mature performances -

When I first saw the episodes of young Kalyani (Jannat Zubair Rahmani) and Ketki (Mehnaz Mann), I was in awe with their acting; those girls have acted so well that I did not think that at that age they will deliver such profound and mature performances. After seeing their acting, I was like now it's going to be more challenging (smiles).

Good luck Amrita!

Can't wait for Amrita to make her entry in the show. Will miss young Kalyani, though.

This show is great and the young girls have outdone themselves. I am sure it will only make the adult actors job even more challenging. I am expecting the show to get even better post the adult actors, if that's even possible!
