Kangana Ranaut, known for her outspoken nature, recently stirred up controversy once again during the promotion of her upcoming film Emergency. The actress, who is also the director and producer of the film, didn't hold back her opinions about the Bollywood industry, which she has been critical of for years.
In a candid interview with Mashable India, Kangana referred to Bollywood as a “hopeless place,” highlighting what she sees as deep-rooted issues within the industry. She accused Bollywood of being envious of talented individuals, claiming that careers are often sabotaged out of jealousy. According to Kangana, the industry tends to target those it perceives as talented, using negative publicity to damage their reputation and boycott them, eventually leading to the downfall of their careers.
Kangana also addressed the ongoing tension between her and certain sections of Bollywood. She mentioned that despite the backlash she faces from a few, the love and support she receives from the larger industry and the public suggest that the problem might not lie with her, but with those who oppose her. This ongoing feud has been a significant part of Kangana’s public persona, often bringing her into the limelight for her sharp remarks against industry practices.
Emergency, her latest venture, is a film that Kangana has been deeply involved with, both in front of and behind the camera. The movie, which stars Anupam Kher, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, and the late Satish Kaushik in pivotal roles, delves into one of the most controversial periods in Indian political history.
However, the film has already sparked controversy. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) recently demanded a ban on Emergency, accusing it of portraying Sikhs in a negative light. Responding to the backlash, Kangana urged people not to take offense, comparing it to how she views her own frequent mimicry by others without taking it personally.
Initially postponed multiple times, Emergency is now set to hit theaters on September 6, 2024, despite the controversies surrounding it.
