Kamlesh Kunti Singh's outburst on the portrayal of Bihar on TV..

Kamlesh Kunti Singh, the renowned writer is upset about the demeaning way in which the state of Bihar is portrayed by certain writers on television today..

Kamlesh Kunti Singh, the renowned writer holds the honor of conceiving the concept of Zee TV's popular show, Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo which has the backdrop of Bihar. The writer felt the urge of showing the brighter side of civilization that prevailed in Bihar, and this gave rise to the acclaimed concept and story line.

Talking about this, Kamlesh tells TellyBuzz, "Bihar had always been portrayed to be a bad and lull state, where kidnaps and abductions happened for money. As a responsible Bihari, I felt the need to depict the colorful and positive side of the state, thro' my show Agle Janam Moha Bitiya Hi Kijo. This show created a trend as such in television and after the success of Agle Janam, many shows with the same backdrop have got launched. However, I am unhappy as the writers have got back to portraying only the darker side of the state".

Kamlesh is an upset man today, as he feels that the Bihari community has been let down, with the way the state has been portrayed today in Indian television. "Today, I want to apologize to all the Biharis, for coming up with a concept as Agle Janam. Ever since I started off this trend, there have been various shows aired, in which things are shown which do not happen for real in Bihar. The goodness of Bihar is being drowned by certain irresponsible writers who have grown their hair long, and claim to be intellectuals. I do not blame the channels or production houses, but it is the writers who have to be stopped".

Talking about a certain incident that happened when he was in Bihar, the Writer states, "When I go to Bihar, there are many people who come up to me and ask how a show can depict such derogatory stuff about their state. It's a pity that we are allowing such concepts to flourish on television".

Kamlesh Kunti Singh goes on, saying "To top it all, the language used in the shows today is simply not the way in which the people there converse in day to day life. The shows usually show people conversing in obscene and abusive language".

"Today Bihar has become a TRP zone, so I earnestly request the channels to take account of this, and show the state in good light. I appeal to the Biharis in the channels to stop such writers and put them in place. I cannot tell you how livid I am at the way writers sell their values for the sake of money. Hope we see a better tomorrow", signs off the writer.

Going by what Kamlesh Kunti Singh has to say, the question that lingers now is whether we need to stand up and pay heed to this, or let go of it? It is for the readers to decide!!

@shabnamriz...(newbie)

wow, you can be continuously demeaning to others, that shows the posts hurt you..... I am against the language used in shows, anyone, even a bit civilized will be; but am also against the tone of your posts too; which sound similar to those derogatory dialogues you gave reference of.... And being a psychologist, I can tell you that if you really analyze the article; it smells more of professional rivalry; than just speaking for a cause.... its more political than social... which is not expected from such a senior writer of high repute.....

But you are also right, in saying that lets end this conversation; because it will lead us no where.... But to one consensus, that use of obscene language should be banned on TV.... And to relief of us all, I&B ministry is taking the matter seriously as more than 100 NGO's from all over India has filed the affidavit against it already...

sorry my apologies. now i get the picture. @anshumania @karunapandey and @crazygod (newbies) are all reacting to new writer, with long hairs. Kamlesh should have not attacked anyone personally. so its Shanti Bhushan all three of you are protecting OR maybe all three of you are the same. i think your fears and reaction is totally justified and now i understand why this conversation made no sense right from the beginning. I'm out of here as this is a zero IQ blame game.

WOW, it seems people are going crazy over this press article..

one thing is sure, that TV is degrading and so is audience taste... shows with derogatory language still have TRP's, so who has to be blamed... everyone is guilty, the one serving it, and the one savoring it...

@anshumania and @karunapandey.. you two should comment on language that is being used on TV, which was also a part of kamlesh's article... but your thoughts do suggest that you want positive feel shows... Switch to better shows then, you have remotes in your hand; or if capable, do something about it, rather than just talk...

@shabnamriz, seems obsessed with kamlesh to protect him, either she is a relative, co-writer, assistant, a fan, or himself under this alias... the kind of language that she/ he is using in her/his posts... if i am wrong, my sincere apologies... @shabnamriz, if you know kamlesh, his profile includes soaps like kyunki etc, which introduced regressive storylines, kitchen politics, vampish female relatives, multiple marriages, people walking back from dead... that typical Balaji drama... I am sure you would have found it repulsive too... And another thing, that I really doubt if 'Agle janam...' was a concept by Kamlesh; so far as I am aware, Kamlesh was part of the episodic-writing-team along with Shanti Bhushan, Mrinal Jha and Virender Shahney.. it was originally conceived by some Shanti Bhushan, ... a comparatively new writer, with long hairs, whose other shows are 'pratigya' and 'Pratha'... (webpage- india-forums.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=1324289)..I could be wrong, but I request India-forum to confirm this from Swastik or zee TV... My apologies in advance if I am wrong... the fact of the matter remains, that TV's content quality is really going down.. its not about representation of a region specific... Look at Big Boss... blame games will never end... Its high time that I&B Ministry should step in..editDate>2010-11-23 21:07:...ed...

I think there are two things--- one is the CONCEPT and the other is the LANGUAGE... Conceptwise,I think, the story of Agle has been a very inspiring story of a girl...her mental strength, her capability to tolerate, her positivity towards life, her sacrifice for her family... all these collectively display the beautiful heart and mentality of the good people of Bihar... especially women, whom Laali represents. Why not think about the "colorful and positive" mentality of the characters like Laali and Shekhar in the show. And to establish the bright, u got to show the dark. Thus come the characters like Loha , Ranvijay,Gangiya.. Its not about Bihar, this is a universal truth that you have to show the dark to establish the bright. To establish the bright and beautiful heart of the main characters Laali and Shekhar representing life and beauty of Bihar, the not-so-good side had to be shown too..

Now coming to the Language part.. i would say, the writers should be more careful while writing a script, as its not mere an emotion to which he is providing words, its more than that.. its the nature, the life, the culture, the mentality of an entire region that they are playing with... So they need to be more careful.

@shabnamritz.. it seems you are too influenced or biased with Mr Kunti to post a personal comment 'mr Anshumania.... is A Liar ur Takiyakalaam'....
Secondly you haven't quite understood what I wrote... I have objected to Mr kunti's hypocrytic statement that 'he wanted to show bihar in good light'.... Because he chose a subject which has abject poverty, women selling, women disrespect, a married women forced to have a physical alliance with a man outside the marriage'... what positive colorful side of bihar/ humanity is this???... He set the base to be dark.. If he was really meant to show Bihar in Good light, was this the best story he could think of, to glorify Bihar.... You yourself mentioned 'Lali beautifully portrayed by the actor was a cult character and so she carried the show on her shoulders for long"… Laali is the protagonist, good like other protagonists, and the only positive thing about bihar, surrounded by dark characters…..
If the intentions of Mr Kunti was to show, bihar in good light, don't tell me this was the best subject he found… Bihar is a glorious state, with a rich history and cuture; warm people; which was sidelined by central govt, and its controlled media in the regime of Indira Gandhi… And that's why the growth was forcefully cut down, the state sidelined from mainstream development, to avenge the revolt against her aristocracy, led by Jay Prakash Narayan… And the state's image was destroyed in the eyes of rest of India using establishment-controlled media…
I have a request to Mr Kunti, that if he wants to show Bihar's glory, please make a pick from following (using seeds from them), to base your next concept…. Being from the state of Bihar, which is my mother-land, its my request to him… it's the land of Sita, Valmiki, Aryabhatta, Panini, Vatsyayan, Ashoka, Buddha, Sher Shah Suri, Guru Govind Singh, Dr, Rajendra Prasad, Jay Prakash Narayan, Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, Devki Nandan Khatri, Ram Vriksha Benipuri, Shovn...

mr Anshumania.... is A Liar ur Takiyakalaam. I think u don't really qualify to comment on the Article. Buying and selling of girls is an age old practice found globally. However in his article he has raised more than one issue. To begin with kamlesh set the show up and it was a novelty then. The way he established the girl was indeed "I felt the need to depict the colorful and positive side of the state" what he says. Lali beautifully portrayed by the actor was a cult character and so she carried the show on her shoulders for long. However why have the people who've reacted so badly to his article not reacted to "The shows usually show people conversing in obscene and abusive language"." Are they comfortable with it or they are themselves responsible for it. To open ur eyes in one show a mother seeks help for a daughter saying Aankhiyan to gadai thi chuchua bhi gadai diya… Unbelievable!!! Another scene a man says to his wife to be "Abhi toh haanth se koota hai shaadi baad lohde se kootonga" amazing … abuses left right and centre where men are hitting women and that makes ur episode also implying this makes the life in UP and Bihar… Wake up man!!! Shame on you!!! Kamlesh had only done the initial some episodes of Agle Janam and the rest of the shit most of you morons are talking about are egested by someone else. Just react ….. don't think as what you don't know is that no one is eventually watching that trash. Red light areas have always existed in space its high time the I&B should create a red light area even in time for the morons Kamlesh is actually talking about.

Specially for karunapandey : Mr Kamlesh Kunti if wanted to show Bihar in good light, he would have developed a concept like 'sasuraal genda phool' or 'yeh rishta' or another light hearted show, at the backdrop of Bihar.... not a dark subject like Agle.... Its like showing muslim community in positive light and basing a subject on terrorism (no offense meant to any community).....)...

Mr Kamlesh Kunti if wanted to show Bihar in good light, he would have developed a concept like 'sasuraal genda phool' or 'yeh rishta' or another light hearted show, at the backdrop of Bihar.... not a dark subject like Agle.... Its like showing muslim community in positive light and basing a subject on terrorism (no offense meant to any community)...... its hypocrisy....

If he had to do "Agle..." as a heart-warming show, showing Bihar in positive light, it should have been that Loha in spite of not having a waaris, doesn't force any woman to bear the waaris, though its a norm in the village... while Ghanghiya would have tried her best to get her daughter jamuni as Shekhar's mistress, but family would have never given in....Loha infact, should have saved Laali from some other atrocious thakur... laali's husband (like ram in ramayan) would have deserted her due to social pressures, due to her abduction by another thakur, doubting her sanctity... and Loha would have given shelter to Laali, entire family treating her nicely, like a member, not an outcast/commodity..... and they would have tried to patch her up with her husband... and shekhar a man who loves his wife Siddheshwari, doesn't get the same love in return... And in that process, a love quadriangle would have formed somehow... with one Ghanghiya as a central negative character; for whom her ticket to richness is through Jamuni (getting her to become mistress to Shekhar).... and we would have had, the story where characters do sacrifices for each other; separated by shallow social norms; bounded by emotions.... with required soapy drama coming from ghanghiya and Jamuni.... It wouldn't have been that dark, but a more relatable, harmonious story about relationships.... with weak and strong characters; characters listening to hearts and others following and believing social norms; but not negative vs positive characters...

The problem was in the SETUP of the show, the basic concept....

Aagle Janam was the BRIGHT SIDE of Bihar?

woah, that state must be uber-dark then.

Mr. Kunti says that he wanted to show the positive side of Bihar through 'agle Janam', and other writers have spoiled it.... But Mr, Kunti, your show was always about buying and selling of woman (which happens in almost every rural state, why you choose Bihar, to demean the state or bring reputation to it, I really wonder); by her own parents (due to excessive poverty in Bihar, another downside of state); and behind this is a Thakur Loha Singh (class/caste division); who forces his own son Shekhar (dominant patriarch and a weak son) to sleep with laali to get waaris (want of male child), when Shekhar is already married to Siddheshwari (adultry); Siddheshwari also wants this physical alliance to happen (greed of women, and emotionally corrupt, insensitive towards a helpless downtrodden woman).... The righteous mother Sumitra has less say than even the vicious maid Ganghiya... who wants her dumb daughter jamuni, to become mistress of ranvijay (adultry)... RV is a weak immoral backstabbing character who is selfish to the core to prove his worth, and follows wishes of his father blindly... Just that Laali is a fighter and Shekhar is a good person at heart (but incapable to do anything) doesn't bring Bihar in good light.... I wonder where is positive side of BIHAR in all of this, except these two characters; which happens in most of the soaps, that leads are positives....
Above all you blame writers for all of this; and leave channel executive out of it, when you being a writer yourself, know, that always a soap is written in collaboration of writer, channel and producers... Other writers are livid as per you; but I wonder how diplomatic you are, to not spoil your terms with channels and producers.... You should really apologize to people of Bihar, not because of other writers, but for yourself... I sincerely hope for a better tomorrow for you Sir....
