‘Itti si thi’: Amitabh Bachchan teases Jaya Bachchan over their height difference on KBC

On the latest episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 17, Amitabh Bachchan lightened the mood with a personal anecdote about his wife, Jaya Bachchan. While interacting with contestant Asha Dhiryan, whom he described as an “adbhut mahila” (wonderful woman), the actor shared a joke that drew laughter from the studio audience.

During their conversation, Asha asked the host to praise his wife. Amitabh responded by saying that Jaya had already proven her patience over the years. “Deviji humare byaah ko 52 years ho gaye hain, baavan saal tak unhone humko jhela iss zyaada tareef kya ho sakti hai,” he said, adding that enduring him for over five decades was itself a compliment. The remark was followed by laughter, setting the stage for another quip later in the exchange.

The height difference quip

Asha went on to narrate her own love story, sharing how her husband fell for her instantly and would follow her around before proposing marriage. She recalled scolding him and even involving a shorter friend during the early days of their courtship.

Responding to this, Amitabh connected the story to his own life. With a smile, he said, “Saari baatein humko aapki bahot acchi lagi, par ek baat joh aapne boli na ke meri friend itti si thi aur upar dekh kar mere husband ko dhamka rahi thi, woh humare liye koi nayi baat nahi hai.” The audience quickly caught the reference to Jaya Bachchan, known for being much shorter than him, and broke into laughter.

Recent work and upcoming projects

Beyond his presence on television, Amitabh was last seen in the 2024 Telugu film Kalki 2898 AD alongside Prabhas and Deepika Padukone, and in the Tamil film Vettaiyan with Rajinikanth and Rana Daggubati. While no new films have been officially announced, he is expected to play a pivotal role in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi.
