A dramatic love story that turns into a fascinating revenge drama, read the full review here.

Film: Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana

Cast: Rajkummar Rao, Kriti Kharbanda

Director: Ratnaa Sinha

Ratings: 3/5

He (Rajkummar) is a good-natured guy and a clerk by profession and she (Kriti) is an ambitious, career driven girl who wishes to become a PCS after clearing the enterance exam in first attempt. Unlike any other middle-class saga, the father of the daughter is rather interested in getting her married than her career.

Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana is a tale of proposed arrange marriage where Satyendra (Sattu) Mishra and Aarti Shukla fall in love during their courtship, all ready to tie the knot. But the bride decides to run away when the Baraat is at her door and then follows an intriguing revenge drama.

The first half of the film captures a delightful scenario of an arranged marriage with the tradition of Dowry, all that wedding shopping and the growing closeness between the boy and the girl. The plot continues to be interesting until some far-fetched scenes which make you want the interval soon.

Shot in most parts of Allahabad and Kanpur, the film beautifully captures the essence of the cities. Based on the civil services backdrop, the characters skilfully do justice to the theme. There's a scene where Sattu and Aarti meet for the first time and talk about their mutual confusion of how anyone can decide their life partner in just a minute which is engaging. The feel and nervousness of a first meeting come out naturally from the two actors.

Characters - Rajkummar and Kriti's chemistry is easy and fun to watch. Rao fits perfectly as Sattu who at first excels as a romantic fiance and then a fierce revenge seeker. Kriti puts forward an earnest attempt but remains emotionless in few parts of the film. When brought together, the two will convince you with their stories about love, ambition and family emotions. The supporting characters have outshined in the film when it comes to natural performances and comic timing.

Music - The highlighting song of the film is Mera Intkam Dekhegi and is shot in an impressive manner. The other soundtracks blend well in the movie.

Writer Kamal Pandey has penned down decent dialogues. They are funny when the plot needs them and gripping at crucial moments.

The climax of Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana is delightful and you will be happy to attend this wedding. The film could have been tighter at places but overall it brings a catchy perspective on arranged marriages, ambitions and revenge.

Watch it for the story of a small town girl whose career is her priority amidst a middle-class backdrop and the pressure of marriage leaving her in dilemma. This movie brings a good act of light-hearted take on emotions and also on the classic revenge drama.
